That was a wonderful introduction to the incarnation of Lord Vishnu as Narasimha. Lord Shiva manifests to reveal the true form of Lord Vishnu as he was very aggressive and had forgotten his true nature and to be aggressive, till the time, Shiva manifests as Sarabeeshwara. The Sarabeeshwara temple is at Tribuvonam Village, 6 km before reaching Kumbakonam. There are 2 shrines, one dedicated to Shiva as Kampahareeshwara, known for healing people who are trembling, better call them as diseases like Parkinsons, Alzheimers etc. The shrine dedicated next to it is Sarabeeshwara, an all-powerful god visited on Sundays by people who are prone to various medical ailments, right from brain disorders, mental afflictions, fears, black magic and a host of others. At least on a Sunday, 3,000 people gather around to seek the grace of Sarabeeshwara. The remedy is an Archana on a Sunday for 11 Sundays, followed by a Homa performed there. Plenty of buses are available from Kumbakonam town bus stand. Get in touch only with the pujari, Shri Sundara Moorthy, an old man. Temple officials are useless and would direct you to Agents undertaking to perform poojas on your behalf seeking commissions in the deals.

Puranas are not like newspapers, they interpret very different meaning from what they appear, there are three different styles(languages) that which express their intention to us, they are 1) Samadhi Bhashe 2) Darshana Bhashe 3) Guhya Bhashe this particular story what you have explained belongs to Guhya bhashe . OK I'll just brief it:- The Sharabha is none other than Lord Vishnu (Shri Ramachandra) himself and the word Narasimha in this story what you have mentioned is indicating Ravana. It was, all the devatas went to Lord Vishnu and prayed him as Shardula to kill this Ravana who is troubling like an uncontrollable wild lion.
