As an editor myself, I agree with a lot of these tips! It's definitely important to make sure you and your editor connect before working together. When reaching out for a sample edit, I highly recommend defining the type of edit you're looking for and mentioning the different weaknesses you are hoping to address. This will help make sure that the sample edits you receive are a good use of time for all parties involved. If you find an editor you really connect with, see if they have any sort of deals or discounts for working with them multiple times or referring other writers to them. For example, I offer discounts for multiple types of edits and give credits toward your next editing service if you refer a friend. As Mandi said, hiring an editor is an essential step in the self-publishing process and you definitely want to do your research!

Sometimes you can find a good editor on fiverr BUT I agree that you have to do a sample edit (they do a chapter or two for like $10) and be critical on your choice. Also make sure you tell them what you expect from them. Fiverr also tells you who customers use and love (Fiverr choice). I've never used a developmental editor on there, but I've found good proofreaders and line editors that had great prices and wonderful skills. Hope that helps! I need the best deals I can get. I've found their prices the most reasonable for my lack of funds.

Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing that! Love having a little more insight on the process for Fiverr.

This gives me clearer insight and direction. I had no Idea what I was getting into, here. I've been stuck with this book on my mind for over 25 yrs. I'm using Dragon natural speaking. I have plans on hammering out 1.000 to 1,500 pages, when I can tape it and print it. Lined up 2 proof readers. Dot the I's and cross the T's. When I write I talk directly to the reader, it grabs there attention . Excellent work...

This was my first time watching a video about how to find an editor. I enjoyed Mandi's video. It was fresh and felt light, but with concise, practical, and helpful recommendations. It was fun to watch.

I thought I ridded my second draft of all the weak points until I got a preliminary edit of the first few pages and the editor highlighted alot of things I could reword or cross out.

Great video and useful advice. I finished my first draft for a science communication (Astronomy) book. Do you have any advice about where to find an editor that specialises in those topics?

Great video! Very clear and concise presentation. I can't afford to spend much on an editor, so I'll have to look around a bit. Do you recommend getting a different editor for development, copy editing and proofread ing?

Hello Mam, I am looking for an Editor to copy edit my manuscript but I am a student so am dependent on my parents for my expenditures and they don't sound interested in investing thousands or dollars in just editing... Can you please suggest someone who can edit at a minimum price... As my book is of around 46000 words and I talked to many editors from upwork but they charge a lot.
@thegroganfamily44882 жыл бұрын
This is good. I would add that authors don’t always take the advice editors give them, so if a book has bad reviews, it isn’t necessarily the editor’s fault! Writers are a stubborn bunch!😂

Do you recommend a manager? What’s your opinion about having a manager as a self published author?
@MandiLynnWrites3 жыл бұрын
Do you mean an agent? Indie authors can get agents, but most don't and you get by just fine. You require an agent when you have very specific goals.

I am sure love your dog. But having he or she jumping around and playing is distracting and frankly made me question your maturity level a bit. Many writers are serious about their work. You need to promote seriousness and the dog isn't helping. I mean this constructively.
