You were right on the money when you mentioned the improvisation. Hiromi rarely actually transcribes her work. She writes music essentially as improvisation and every live version you hear will be noticeably different from the CD version in a number of places. The live versions often feature much longer improvised sections. It's actually really fun to compare a CD version to a live version and spot the places where she goes off and does something completely different.

Love it! My mother used to play me enormous amounts of Polish Jazz since I can remember (I loved it then as well) and this band reminds me a lot of this stuff. Yay! I'm six years old again! Thanks Jim!

You must be familiar with the original wave of jazz/rock fusion groups from the early 70's. Chick Corea's Return To Forever did very similar stuff back then. They went on a reunion tour in 2008, and some songs are on KZbin. After 40 years, they hadn't lost a step. I would recommend "Duel Of The Jester And The Tyrant", "Song To The Pharaoh Kings" or "Sorceress", which run about 10 min. each, but you can check out a 4 min. song "Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy", to see if you want to proceed. Although I never liked Corea's synth tones much, the musicianship level is pretty high, with Al Di Meola on guitar being pretty spectacular.

I never really listened to hiromi's sonic bloom, but her Trio is amazing! Songs like, Voice or Alive , feel some metal in there! and if you like heavy Jazz, try the djentleman Tigran Hamasyan He's an armenian jazz pianist, with lots of polyrythms heavy grooves and stuff! Try : Kars 1 , Entertain Me, or The Grid

This was more like a show case of hugely talented musicians. At first it reminded of Finnish bass player's, late Pekka Pohjola solo albums, next Gary Moore's early jazz rock albums, and third, very soon, pretty pointless as a piece of music. It was all about talent and musicianship. I think there's better jazz rock been made a lot. Sorry, I get me coat...
