Don' t listen to Claire de Lune as you expect it to be played in a classical way, listen to the music as the music is, listen to the music as she is playing it - excctly as she is playing it. Of course Debussy did not mean the music to be played this way, he is from another time in history. And Hieromi Uehara did not kill the song. How could she - the old classical version still exists, she is just creating new life and new music - that's not the same as killing.

aw yeah new dates have been added, I just checked ! But only few dates, lucky there's one near from you lol Well, here too she's not "famous" (as many jazz musicians), but she is for people that listen to jazz. Btw, she just ended a huge world tour, every night in another place, she went through EU, USA and Japan ; also her duo with Chick Corea. I think all of that is the sign that actually, she's quite famous !

I discovered Hiromi driving in my car in San Diego. Marian McPartland was interviewing Hiromi. They got along famously, although I believe that Marion was a bit intimidated by her keyword prowess. Marion asked Hiromi "how often due you practice"? Hiromi answered "I don't practice". The two played a tune or two and it was fabulous. Angeline is correct = This girl needs to be more famous!

For the naysayers. A. Hiromi Uehara is a JAZZ pianist. B. The banner in the background even says "Jazz San Javier" C. What's wrong with Claire de Lune being written into a jazz format? It's refreshing to hear it in a different format. Makes the music feel more alive. But if jazz isn't your cup of tea? Then move along.

I don't know how she does it. I've listened to her interpretation of several classical pieces, and all of them have blown me away. She manages to turn them into great jazz, yet you can still hear the underlying themes of the classical piece.

I know this is an old comment with plenty of replies...but I just felt the need to say that Fiuczynski is easily one of my favorite parts of Hiromi's Sonicbloom. From Led Boots, Time Difference, to Deep Into the Night, he completely stands out and is insane in what he does; totally matches Hiromi's virtuosity and intensity and even overpowers the stage in some cases. It seems you chose the most underwhelming of his performances to pick at, just saying.

@RottenZombieChick You're way off on Fiuczynski. The man is a mad guitarist and he a very distinct style. His work with Screaming Headless Torsos is incredible. He is also a professor at Berklee, which is the school this entire group came from. He is definitely worthy of being here. I do prefer the trio setup, but the albums that do feature David are great and fresh. I wouldn't change Sonicbloom's lineup.

This is some pretty nice free-flowing Jazz here. I'll probably get some hate for this, but I'm just expressing my opinion... I think doing a Jazz rendition of this song is bold, but ultimately dims the somber beauty of the original. This is a nice cover though, and brings a more upbeat mood to the song

I really like this adaptation but I as good as it is I'm not crazy that it ends with the bass solo. (SPOILER ALERT LOL). The problem is that my favorite part of the piece is the ending and I'd rather hear it brought back to Debussy's world to bookend the beginning.

Lets be fair with all of those who said that this killed Clair d Lune... It's just that when it's posted like this it's really annoying, When I read in title (Artis) - (Composition) I expect to hear at least somewhat unchanged. Now, THIS, even though it's really awesome, innovative, jazzy (love jazz)... it ain't Clair d Lune, the Tempo, Rhythm, Arrangement, much more is changed (besides beginning, and a 6min in is recognizable), so I would like to see some other labelling like "Jazz Clair dLune"
