What you mean is that you personally don't like music played out of key. There is no god of key signatures, determining what sounds good and bad. It's all subjective. Hiromi is heavily influenced by fusion, for which "playing outside" the key is an essential part, and for some, this is the most exciting and stimulating part of the music.

While I respect that opinion I have to say as far as my tastes go and i'm sure at least some other people agree, sometimes more is more. I love listening to her and almost any other musician play like this. It's bold and risky, technically fantastic, and as far as "sound" goes I love it. She's like a piano version of an 80's guitar virtuoso to me, and that sound is nothing to be ashamed of. I say all of this only to display another opinion for those who might agree with me.

i think FUZE is a teacher in berklee... so he can play straight jazz... with no effects... you can't be a faculty member of that school if you're just an average jazz player... this guy is a heck of a player... one of my idols...

@javaramp hmm that was planned. Why? 4 people can't 'fail' at the same time. If you're looking for glitches, you missed it by a second: check the guitarist in 1:39 instead :-) ok, switch off tech mode now and just enjoy!

Whether Fiuczynski sounds good or not is up for legitimate debate, but it's indisputable that you should never encourage the audience to clap for your solo like he does at 5:38.

I know Fuze... But I know Hiromi. Why do you think Hiromi dumped him?
@PrashantSohani9 жыл бұрын
***** Not sure if anyone 'dumped' anybody. Dave has a certain musical style: microtonal work, eastern influences etc. All of which is very nice, nodoubt; but perhaps Hiromi just wanted a different flavour for her other albums. Nothing wrong with that.
@LfunkeyA13 жыл бұрын
@Xitlalic he's not substituting anything, he's playing notes and using effects. also, the purist anti-effects mentality is getting old.

"Out of key"? You do realize they're playing dominantly jazz, right?
@Spacecowb0i12 жыл бұрын
LOL you have no right to tell a jazz player that he/she missed something especially if that piece was his/her own composition.
@MetallicaBLS12 жыл бұрын
Even though Im on your side here MsJustMatter I've got to concede that Fuze's solo in this version was like...superrrr frippy and also just not one of his best efforts. Don't get me wrong its great...just not one of HIS best.
@socratesandlavagods12 жыл бұрын
lol @ even attempting to this that some cheese ball like alex hutchings is even in fuze's universe.

Well, it's just sad for me to think that you confine yourself to that belief. For me, jazz is about freedom and surprises. More on the first.

Yea, Mr. Clean is good on the 7 string, but IMO he tries a little too hard to grab the attention away from the real star of the show - Samurai Princess of the keyboard...

@metamorphosis6712 жыл бұрын
He's a very original player but he plays too weird & 'out' for his own good. He needs to get off that Robert Fripp science-fiction one-way trip & learn from Hiromi's all-inclusive style & not be afraid to play beautiful tones & nice little melodies like Jaffar Beck every now & then, it won't kill his alley-cat cred as an 'artist' or 'punk jazzer' or whatever it is he thinks he is to wus it up a little bit like a sensitive woman about to cry. He can even wear a pink hat as a reminder.
@cattybound201111 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it is your problem. :) David Fiuczynski isn't really all that great. There are tons better, and really great guitarists are a dime a dozen anyway. Let's get the order straight --- David is lucky to be playing with Hiromi. Hiromi is not really "lucky" at all to have David playing for her. Hiromi is the star of this show, not David. David has always been a mere session guy and nothing more.
@gyd67ckn7 жыл бұрын
Jesus, they're both great. It's not a competition, they're collaborating. I've only heard his work with Screaming Headless Torsos and his solo Kif Express but they both were super impressive and experimental.
