The pilot of the plane still maintains that he never lost sleep because of the bomb, as he truly saw it as the best possible solution. When you imagine immediate death toll of a bomb (+radiation poisoning and later birth defects) it is smaller than what would've happened if US and USSR went to war with Japan
@wadswwwwasdw
@wadswwwwasdw 8 ай бұрын
The cause of the surrender was the Soviet Union's entry into the war against Japan. This was an act of genocide against civilians and a violation of international law. There were many civilians living in Hiroshima at that time. International law (international law of war and international humanitarian law) prohibits, in principle, attacks on noncombatants and non-military facilities (military target principle). It also prohibits the use of weapons that cause unnecessary suffering. After a heated debate at the Imperial Conference (the highest decision-making meeting attended by the Showa Emperor), the Japanese government decided at 2:30 a.m. on August 10 to accept the Potsdam Declaration on the condition that "the national polity be preserved. The "protection of the state" meant the preservation of the Emperor System, and the politicians of the time were most afraid that if the war continued, the Soviet Union would enter the war against Japan and the Emperor System would collapse due to the influence of communism. The administration was also informed that there were some voices in the U.S. that were in favor of the Emperor System (Undersecretary of State Grew, an intellectual, had suggested to President Truman that the Emperor System should be allowed to continue in order for Japan to accept the end of the war, and that this would be advantageous for the U.S. in rebuilding after the war) America committed numerous acts of genocide in Vietnam and the Middle East.

I'm a Japanese and my grandmother is an atomic bomb survivor. My only opinion is that the tragedy of the atomic bomb must never be repeated. I condemn the use of the atomic bomb because it is now being passed off as a 'war-stopping success story' and there is a danger that the use of nuclear bombs will be justified in the future. The atomic bomb does not save the world, it destroys everything. People near the centre of the bombing are instantly vaporised, leaving only shadows, and many people walk around with severe burns all over their bodies, dragging their internal organs and skin with them. Even if you survive the bombing, countless hardships await you. After the bomb, there are people whose bodies were destroyed by radiation and who literally spat blood. Even if you survived the war, your family was separated by disease and survivors were discriminated when marrying or finding work as 'contaminated' people. Even if the war is over, there is no end to the suffering of the survivors of nuclear bombs. The atomic bomb is an extremely inhumane weapon. I am a third-generation A-bomb survivor. My grandmother experienced the atomic bomb when she was three years old. Her mother was pregnant at the time. She was exposed to the bomb along with her baby. It is often said that the atomic bomb is the 'retribution for Japan's past barbarity', but my grandmother, who was three years old, and my great-uncle, who was an unborn baby, had nothing to do with that "past barbarity". Don't get me wrong. Neither I, nor surely my grandmother, want to blame the US or Dr Oppenheimer. Research into the development of the atomic bomb was also carried out at Japanese universities. If I had to blame, it would be the Japanese military of the time that pushed for the war. Telling the history of the atomic bombings is not a way of expressing bitterness about the past, but an action to ensure that no one in the future will suffer from the atomic and hydrogen bombs. The fact remains that Hiroshima was the first city in the world to be bombed. However, we must continue our efforts to ensure that Nagasaki remains the last city in the world to be bombed. Today, the memory of the Holocaust is being used in Israel as a reason to justify Palestinian aggression, as a "distorted sense of victimhood" and "an occasion for self-preservation instincts". European countries and other developed countries cannot take a strong stance against Israel because of their history of persecuting Jews in the past, such as diaspora, pogroms and the Holocaust. We are now witnessing a moment when negative history is giving birth to new negative history. Fortunately, in Japan, the memory of the atomic bombings is not perceived as an exaltation of patriotism, but as a 'reminder of past mistakes' and a pray for peace. This is because the survivors sincerely passed on their experiences and prays for peace to the next generation. However, there is no guarantee that the atomic bombs will not be used as a 'distorted victimhood' in the future. Alternatively, if a nuclear bomb were dropped somewhere in the world today, its memory could trigger new tragedies in the future. Like the memory of the Holocaust in Israel and its relation to the Palestinian genocide. The series of debates about the film Oppenheimer (whether to release the film or not) provided a good opportunity to review how the Atomic bomb is perceived in Japan. I had hoped that the film would have triggered a reassessment of the principle that humanity must never use nuclear weapons again. However, looking at online memes such as 'Barbenheimer', people probably don't understand how horrific the atomic bomb is. Unfortunately, even today, the atomic bomb is still perceived as 'an effective means of surrendering Japan, which continued its barbaric behaviour'. This does not stop the use of new atomic bombs. Again, the atomic bombs bring death and destruction, not success and peace. I do not mean to emphasize Japan's victimhood by any means. I want to tell the world about the horror of the atomic bomb itself. The world is too ignorant. Ignorance destroys the world. Japan is a popular tourist destination worldwide. If you visit Japan, you should go to the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima. There you will see how people's lives were destroyed by the atomic bombs. In today's society, the next victim could be anyone. Looking at the recent international situation, you would have felt. 'You are mistaken if you think that war will always be outside your country. We must never use the atomic bomb again so that you and your family will not be the next victims.

I hope and pray that an atomic/nuclear bombing never happens again. However, while I would never call it a success, it was by far the least bad option that was available to end the war at the time. The Japanese military leadership absolutely refused to surrender despite them being virtually helpless against the US military. They were planning to arm civilians to oppose an invasion, basically trying to force the US into a bloody meat grinder that would result in millions of people dead on both sides. As terrible as the atomic bombings were and how horrific their aftermaths were, they were far less than what an invasion would cost, and they did convince the Emperor to order the surrender or face utter annihilation. Again I hope that those bombing remain the only use of nuclear weapons in anger ever, I am just saying that of the options to end the War in the Pacific, they were the LEAST horrible when the Japanese military leadership just flat out refused to surrender and end the conflict. I agree that nuclear weapons do not bring peace. AT THE TIME in that particular situation it broke the intransigence of people too proud to choose peace and forced them to the table allowing the war to end.
@user-lk5hc5xh6n
@user-lk5hc5xh6n 2 ай бұрын
That's really true. If only the Japanese military government had surrendered a little earlier, many of its citizens would not have died (...and of course, none of this would have happened without the barbaric actions of the military in the first place). Thank you for your comment. We Japanese people must have a clear understanding of what Japan did to its neighbors during the Pacific War and the reason and process that the atomic bombs had to be dropped.

The barometric triggers released timed explosions that crushed the ball of uranium to a point where the atoms were so close that if one split all would get split. That was triggered by the release of two chemicals mixing and releasing a free neutron right into the crushed uranium ball starting a massive chain reaction and release of energy.

Yes the bombs were a terrible thing. I hope people remember that dropping those bombs prevented the death hundreds of thousands or maybe even millions of lives on both sides. The Japanese government and the Japanese millitary were two separate entities. Even if the government wanted to surrender the millitary was its own ruling body. The Japanese millitary vowed to fight until the last man. They were never going to surrender which would have led to an American invasion and street to street fighting. We had nothing left after fighting on two fronts.

Was this reasonably old video recommended to anyone here because it wasn't recommended to me but I'm seeing a lot of recent comments. There's no more country or organization(s) left in this world that can win a war against the 'Allies' (Elite countries like USA, England, etc). They might bomb North Korea but it might only be at similar scale against Afghanistan or Iraq.

Crazy fact: for the bombing of Hiroshima, only three people of the Enola Gay crew knew the nature of the “Little Boy” bomb. Everyone else did not. So when they bomb was detonated, so everyone on the plane were completely shocked. Parsons told reporters "the whole thing was tremendous and awe-inspiring ... the men aboard with me gasped 'My God'." O.o

I am a Japanese in my thirties. My grandfather witnessed the atomic bombing on this day while training as a naval reservist off the coast of the Seto Inland Sea. He told me that the sky over Hiroshima was burning bright red. He is a taciturn man. But his eyes were serious when he told me that that war must never be repeated. Following Ukraine, tensions are rising in Taiwan. We must reaffirm the preciousness of preserving peace, following in the footsteps of our grandfather's generation.

Sudo, my brother-in-law's father was a physicist in Tennessee who was part of The Manhattan Project. There is a Canadian psychologist named Jordan Peterson who recently said, correctly, that "if you think strong, aggressive males are dangerous, then wait until you find out what the weak ones are capable of!" His point is that peace does not come from pacifism but rather through two strong parties who are capable of self-defense discovering that working cooperatively to procure resources is superior to fighting against each other. If the world is to avoid conflict then I believe that is the path to preventing humanity's extinction. I know one thing: ICBMs now each have 300 times more destructive power than the larger of the two a-bombs that were dropped on Japan so if there is another nuke war, humanity is dead.

The espionage would be there from others all the time as well. It was at a level that would always modify behavior at an extreme level at even using certain devices due to fear of it leaking. Mike was a flipflop in view and emotion. He would say outloud in near tears that they were messing up and they need an out, then pivot and act confident like their team had everything worked out on their own.
