One of the very greatest soundtracks.It should be far better known.I know the film is very famous but the music really is strong enough to stand alone.

Saw movie 1960, Bleeker cinema. Would ride bike around Greenwich Village at dawn with that music, melancholy sound in my head. Then in 62 loved a French girl, much older than me, then arested, jail and lost her-but still love her and still hear that melancholy sound. It is said melancholy is the deepist emotion. Stasia Mon Amour.

The Satie/Poulenc-esque short piano piece at 30:00 (I assume by Delerue - sounds like his compositional sense) is so simple and so heart rending...it made a profound impression on me the first time I saw the film - particularly since the dialogue over it is so overwhelming (the parting lovers realize they will never again meet unless somehow united by another war).
@FrancescoBosa7 жыл бұрын
The original score is by Giovanni Fusco (the piano piece at 30:15 it's a reprise of a theme for winds at 13:00. There's also a variation at 22:54). For this movie Georges Delerue composed only "Valse du café du fleuve" (at 23:45).

Francesco Bosa does this piece have a name of its own? It is not included in the film’s soundtrack
@FrancescoBosa3 жыл бұрын
@@bearlevi2482 Sort of a barcarolle, and the winds version appears with the description of the river. The piano version starts when the two characters are at the tea room. They go outside and watch the river. So the theme is probably more related to the river than a particular scene (a barcarola is perfect for water... Fusco was a great classical composer, he knew pretty well those sort of connections). Oh a title? Try "the river" ;-)
