if you mix Elmer's glue with the Durhams Rock Hard Water Putty and water... it will set up a lot better and super strong for tiny detials.

I actually use plaster of paris and it works out fine for me. I actually did a strength test between PoP, durhams and PoP w/extra and I'm now using Pop + extra ;-) great comparison BtW

Infinite RolePlay So the extra is just more plaster of paris added then recommended? I'd love to know what the extra is :P

Merlin's all the way. I personally think Merlin's magic is best all around. I heard Excalibur is suppose to be really good as well. never used it tho.

I've not had any good success with Durham's. No idea what I may have done wrong. It seemed a lot more brittle than Plaster of Paris.

How do you mix without hidden air pockets.

I do wonder why so many people use plaster, it often casts with air bubbles, chips over time, is prone to breaking. I wonder why more people don't use resin, is there a reason that you don't use resin yourself?

Becky Rose The molds are designed for plaster casting. Resin casting is something I want to look into, but it degrades the mold alot faster from what I understand. So the only way to effective get into it is to make masters, cast new molds designed for resin & go from there.

Titan Terrain Studio Ahh well that explains why it is the default choice, thanks. Mould making is probably the harder part of the hobby sure, and the silicon is quite expensive in comparison to the piece cost but it is not so prohibitively expensive that it is out of reach, making your own resin mould would cost less than the original Hirst Arts mould and in a project the size of the one you have on that bench the cost of a few moulds would have been barely noticeable for that many pieces. I've found with my plaster dungeons that chips and light damage build up rapidly just from occasional use, actually I swear the things chip all by themselves! Of the two plaster dungeons that I have made one is already in quite a sorry state and it's only seen game action 2 or 3 times. Mostly it's taken damage just from being on a set of shelves that have other bits on which get some use. For me the benefits of resin outweigh the mould costs, I just don't regard plaster as a suitable material for use.

Faeryn Winters I use resin, so yes. It’s not expensive at all.
