I drag diagonally across the mold rather that squared up to the mold, but that's a personal preference. If you really want your bits and pieces to last use a thinned down resin or thinned down varnish. By coating the pieces with the thinned down product it will make the exterior for all intents and purposes plastic. If the plaster is saturated with a thinned down laquer it will be virtually unbreakable. I've thrown pieces treated that way against the wall and in most cases it did nothing at all or barely chipped the part, Basically I build to the level that my grandkids could still use it long after I'm taking a dirt nap. Takes a little extra time in the build, but in the end it will last and last.

yeah i sometimes scrape diagonal... i tried the plate method.. but wow what a mess. future floor polish works great as a varnish as well..

it depends on the plaster and its expansion rate

Have you tried using Durham's water putty for your molds? if you have please make a video of why or why not to use it.

i tried it along time ago.. it wasn't very practical in cost effectiveness compared to hydrostone. it wasnt a bad plaster..

actually chipboard/cereal box works better than foamboard " it doesn't warp & its better for the environment"...
