Thanks for sharing this video. I still think about it from time to time, and I always feel terrible for Keith Byars when I remember what happened. He was one of my favorite players when I was a kid. It's just so sad what happened to him. But I guess that's life. It isn't fair, and sometimes you just get thrown a curveball that you never see coming. I just hope Byars knows that a lot of people still appreciate him and remember him for being a great Jet. Love you, my friend. #keithbyars #newyorkjets #nfl

I can't really blame Parmalee for that. I can't truly say that he stabbed Byars in the back given how everything played out.

1999 was a step back for the jets after they won 12 games, won the afc east for the first time ever, afc championship game appearance. The jets even started 1-6 in 1999 then finished 8-8 that year.

Vinny Testaverde getting hurt (ruptured Achilles) in 99 game 1 caused that. He was All-Pro in 98. Can't remember who subbed in, but wasn't in Vinny's league.

I moved to South Jersey in 1990 and about a week after I moved there I was sitting in a booth at a pizza place near my house and I looked behind me and saw a dude with a neck the size of a Michelin tire. He picked up his order a minute or two later and when he left the guy behind the counter at the pizza shop told us it was Keith Byars. Side note, the pizza shop was next to the Wawa Rich Kotite used to read his paper and drink his coffee at.

This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about how similar circumstances caused Tony Eason to not want to sign with the Jets in 1989.

SO...here's how karma affected this entire situation, proving that when it comes to karma there are no winners because "winning" isn't the point, it's balance. When Jimmy Johnson took over my team in '96 he went out of his way to treat Byars like garbage for some crazy reason. First, Byars was forced to take a pay cut. Then he was moved from FB to TE. Then after all that, JJ cut him when he should've just done that from the start. This led to a bitter Byars latching on with the Pats...and then giving them all the Fins' plays leading to a 4-game Pats winning streak over Miami including a 17-3 playoff win in '97. Which led to Byars paying for his treachery by losing his Jets job to his friend. Thankfully Parmalee ended the cycle by having nothing to do with that intentionally, and even being talked by Byars into signing.

As a fellow Dol-Fan the 1999 season was a disaster for the Dolphins as Jimmy Johnson had retired in January but was talked out of it by Owner Wayne Huizenga and with the 1999 Dolphins draft along with the 62-7 playoff beating the Dolphins took from Jacksonville it seemed Johnson was still retired from January.

Ray Lucas was a back up quarterback and a special teamer not a punter. I’m not sure why Keith Byers was so confident or surprised that the Jets cut him. he just came off a year in which she had one of the biggest fumbles in New York Jets history that cost them a chance at the Super Bowl

I don`t get the "Backstabbing " part but i know you need the catchy title. It seems more of a duchy coaching/management move by Parcells and the Jets. What was Parmalee to do? Not play hard? decline the position?
