You're so right about him not being the same horse. When you got him try as I might I couldn't see anything about him that would make me think that he was a thoroughbred, he was that chunky. I love chunky horses and I love thoroughbreds, but he definitely is showing signs of being a thoroughbred now; the change is incredible. I'm loving the way you explain everything warts and all, and so glad that you decided to go ahead after the warm up. As they say, it's always darkest before the dawn, so you had your reward for persisting. I'm so looking forward to your next video regarding how to become a vet; I'm sure it will be fascinating.

You are right, Holly. When you first got him, Rocky was in very poor condition, and I wondered if you were crazy trying to turn him into a show horse. He came around slowly and by the end of the season, he looked good. This year he started in much better condition, and he doesn't look like the same horse. You have both done fabulously.

What a good boi Rocky ! So glad you listened to your subs who pleaded with you to keep him. Ok, he's got a ways to go with suppleness but he's trying soooo hard for you. What a change from the bronc-ing OTB of a year ago. You've done such a good job with him Holly. I know you resist but try wearing gloves. Daresay you won't look back. Especially on a sweaty Aussie summer day. You'll see ! ❤️ from 🇨🇦..

Do you know Rocky's racing history? I'm curious if he ran on turf or dirt. If it was turf, it could be a memory that jazzes him up. Of course, if he ran on dirt, he may just be newer to riding on grass and getting jazzed up because of that. lol Who knows why they do the things they do. Great vlog! Rocky's jumping style has improved SO much! You both looked great!

I've just got a new OTT here in Australia and he is lovely, very green but does get on his toes much more when I'm riding in a grass paddock, I agree it is probably about the racing on grass. Well done Holly, Rocky is doing so well.

Holly. The shape he made and use of his hindend was really good. A you say the best round yet. TBs can be frustrating as there are days when its brillant and days when they brutal while they learn. So be prepared for that. Keep up the good work. PS. A 64% + is regarded as a point score in pure dressage here at Home. In eventing 55% is the basic for a Mer. Minimum Eligibility Requirement to move up levels.

You had a fab showjumping round- striding and jumps were gorge! Just wondering - I’m hitting a bump with our striding putting small ones in- but I guess it’s maybe down to rhythm and confidence - any tips? ❤
@HollyLenahanSJ2 жыл бұрын
My top tip for practicing the correct stride is to ride a course of poles and practice your striding over them, and most importantly setting out two poles 4, 5 or 6 strides apart and riding down that and riding the correct number of strides. This helps you find the correct rhythm and pace needed. Then continue this rhythm around the entire course of poles!

@CAR0TASTISCH2 жыл бұрын
Question out of curiosity: aren't Rockys hooves too "shallow"? like his heels are too low? I know that's usually the case with TBs but idk. I've struggled with that a lot with my PRE mare and the angle of their front legs are similar. Also aren't you scared to jump with his skinny TB legs? I've always been told that I shouldn't jump with my mare because her legs are too skinny, and she ended up with a tendon lesion and a broken cartilage in her hoof from jumping 1m one time by free jumping. Not just Holly but what are your guys' opinions on this? On jumping with a TB's "not meant for jumping" with skinny legs? Thx!
@HollyLenahanSJ2 жыл бұрын
He does have slightly low heels, but that will take a long time to improve and he’s very sound so it’s not impacting him right now. And no, jumping a horse with “skinny” legs wouldn’t worry me. And Rocky actually has quite chunky legs for a thoroughbred!
