What a badass couple. You two work well together. Your husband is a real MAN. Any guy that can make a legit REAL debris shelter (with help from his awesome wife of course) and drink spider tea by the fire is no doubt a badass. You guys are the best!

I agree. If you know any guys like Dave looking around for a woods girl, I'm looking. Until I found you guys, I always hid my lumber jill skills, too many guys got downright annoyed that I could build a fire, tent, shelter, chop trees by hand, chop massive firewood logs by hand, grow and make food, build a toilet, build a cabin, etc. and go hiking in the wilderness alone. The guys I have met in my life did NOT like a woods girl! I remember even back in jr high school escaping the city by going down to the river with my bacon and eggs and frying pan and starting a fire in the snow to make breakie! You guys are my long lost bosom buddies! (ps and being good at fishing also annoyed them) AND I even had a collie exactly like yours. Wow. Kind of makes me feel like I should never have moved back to the city. But that's okay, cuz I am leaving the city in less than two weeks and never looking back. Just got to find a dog and a guy like Dave. I don't suppose you rent him out? ha ha ha

Well in an ultimate emergency now I know what to do! hehe....Here in AL all we have is leaves and sticks (very thin skinny trees). Would totally work. Also a nice camo effect ! Love the tent life there while building your own little homes, outhouse and shower house. So cool! Lots of work but so worth it! My hubby is a roofer and has already built sheds and small structures. Might be cool to upgrade and see how that turns out! Thank you to you and your husband for inspiration!

OK, now I'm REALLY hoping you two find each other on the next episode of "Alone". What a team! :) I really liked the hatchet tip and the smoking-out-the-shelter tip. I'm not so much freaked out about spiders as I am about *ticks* and all the diseases they can transmit. ((shudder))

Yeah ticks are disgusting! No ticks in AK and I'm not sure there are any on Vancouver island either.

Congrats on your sense! Of all the debris shelter videos I have watched, and all the survival books I have read. You are the only ones I can recall to build a smudge fire in your shelter and smoke out the buggies! Having been the meal plan for any number of fleas, mites, chiggers, ticks and mosquitoes, and having been attacked by yellow jackets and wasps, the less insectoid and arachnoid cohabitants, the better. Cheers!

Yeah who likes that stuff!

Watched you guys on Alone on tv . Thought you were going to win easily . You guys got bored after you built the cabin but lack of food was key . You guys built the best shelter ever and my wife and I were rootin for ya . The brothers from Canada were just miserable there at the end . What a tough competition . You are all winners in my book . My wife and I are both disabled , so watchin what you were capable of was amazing . God Bless .
@donrussell88897 жыл бұрын
food is always key. Shelters, etc, for this show and for all survival stuff, must be kept simple, and easily portable, at least until you've fed yourself well for at least a month and have put ahead at least 100 lbs of preserved food (per person) you can't eat firewood or shelters, guys. you need to be making a pontoon outrigger raft and lots of netting, so you can be fishing out beyond the kelp beds and so you'll have the fishheads and guts with which to bait in a bear and arrow it from a tree blind. Juice the kelp for your carb needs.
@therealgirlinthewoods7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Buzzx04 we didn't get bored at all... and our shelter kept us occupied for a long time and that's important. It was a simple lack of food. That's a really tough time of year to START out there.

Well done. I have used a debris hut in the winter. I want to build one for summer use but the idea of spiders and snakes have kept me from it. I always wonder if spiders bother people much that are out doing what you are. I don't hear people mention them much. Once Really Big Monkey ran into a web & stopped with disgust on his face and said " oh that's just wonderful". made me laugh, I could relate. Others I watch act like spiders don't bother them at all. But thank you that I now know how to get rid of them. You did get rid right? I will also carry my peppermint oil spray. I HATE SPIDERS! You two are awesome
@therealgirlinthewoods7 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! I think tolerance for spiders is a personal thing... some don't bother, some kill on sight! I was recently woke up by something crawling over my face (in a debris shelter) and turned my headlamp on and it was a GIANT spider! It died. haha
