This line, speaking about an American Irishman killed me: “He seems to have declared war upon the King’s English as well as the English King!”

The narrator has a very pleasant and listenable voice, contrary to most. Deep and resonant, and soothing. I doubt that he is English however, as he doesn't use authentic British pronunciation in many instances. Cadogan, for instance, is not pronounced as written (with a long "o" ) by Brits. They pronounce it Cah-DUG-uhn. Also, the regional accents are a bit muddled. Even so, an admirable effort and enjoyable reading.

That's a dumb thing to say. From Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett up through Earle Stanley Gardner and Elmore Leonard to John Grisham, Thomas Harris and Dan Brown, American mystery writers are terrific and far more varied and creative. There have been scores of great films made from their stories, from The Thin Man stories and The Maltese Falcon to The Pelican Brief, The Firm, The Client, A Time to Kill, to Chinatown, Silence of the Lambs and The DaVinci Code. I could go on for hours. Your statement is laughable and uninformed.
