Meet my friend Christopher. A son of a Filipino Diplomat family. He was born in Vienna, Austria and grew up in 6 different countries. In this video, he shares some insights on what it was like growing up and how he ended up in Dumaguete City.

Is d place u live now is your hometown, meaning, u were born there n still live there? In my case it's different, I was born in Melaka n bcoz of d nature of my late dad's job, a senior police officer, I had lived in 6 places, towns n cities in peninsular Malaysia, on n off with living in KL.

Wow that’s amazing. Thank you for sharing, Yasin! No wonder why you know so much about most places in Malaysia especially KL. Similar case with Chris. Right now he lives in Manila which is his parents hometown but not for Chris since he was born in Vienna, Austria.

​​​@@VanandJoe My late dad, passed away few years ago with cancer, was also a diplomat, in Jakarta. He only moved to Jakarta with my late mom n my younger brother, d other siblings incl myself in college, stayed in Malaysia. I didn't know that my late mom already had a cancer before going to Jakarta, n I only see her there once during my 1st semester break. Not long after that, I received news that she passed away n her body was brought back for burial in Kuantan, her home town. A year after that, my late dad married to an Indonesian lady from Jakarta n a year after that, they returned to KL. By d way, during my years, I have had 3 types of passports, a Malaysian diplomatic passport when my late dad was a diplomat, an official Malaysian passport when I was serving Malaysia in Mumbai, n now I hold a standard Malaysian passport, hehehe. 😄

Wonderful footage, wonderful person in Christopher, ethnicity of whom you are you should always be proud off, if your 100% filipino then that's who you are, your roots. What a wonderful life story! Chris coming from a Filipino diplomat family, he is a Filipino citizen even though he was born in Vienna right? I’m born here but grew up in Canada and the States. I didn’t know becoming a Canadian citizen that I had lost being a Filipino citizen. I was so young and I didn’t know anything about a lot of these stuff. I moved to the States when I married my American hubby. Story short, I love everything about 🇨🇦 and the 🇺🇸 I have dual citizenships. Living in both countries and working so many years I have decided to quit my job. I just wanted to enjoy my life to the fullest. Life is short and so I decided to move back here in the 🇵🇭. It’s so true though that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. I’m having a hard time but I’m slowly accepting my country 🇵🇭. I’m sure it will get better in God’s will. Hi Joe, can you ask Chris if he did face racism in The U.S. and Europe, he speaks fluent English, does he also speak Bisaya? but then again at the eyes of Western People he is still Asian by race, culture and so on. And ask him if he dated Western white women, last thing what is his favorite Filipino Food,? sorry for the personal questions Chris and Joe. Dumaguete is already a melting pot of races, Expats and foreigners were already there, I think we call it the second wave of colonization. Silliman is a prestigious and excellent University. Hey Fred! Great questions, to answer it without getting to much into it: 1. Yes, I've had my share of racism or being stereotyped anywhere I've gone really. That being said, I've had good experiences with people in these places also. 2. Yeah, I do speak Bisaya at the conversational level. I wasn't able to at all when I first moved to Dumaguete. 3. The dating scene hasn't really been my thing, one reason being I've always bouncing around. Awesome to know your mom is from Dumaguete also! Amping!

I'm into people's life story and biography, also birthdays, not me being inquisitive, I am just interested and intellectually curious, because I've experience also living in the U.S.A. and the Philippines, I was born in Cebu but raised in the U.S. and also traveling to Canada only as a tourist, because we only live 2 hours away from Seattle, Washington U.S.A. to Vancouver Canada, What was it like since you move to other Countries and also transfering from School to other School, like what I did? Thanks Joe and Chris for this interesting discussion. The punctuality and precision of the German people is so true. Even though it must have been difficult at times to be raised in so many different cultures it sure was beneficial in the end. It sure broadens your horizons and allows you to better understand many different areas. It is wonderful that Chris is able to live in the Philippines and learning about Filipino way of life. Thought the backdrop for the video was perfect with the chairs, table and trees in the background. Of all places that Chris has lived what would he say was the most beneficial to him and why?

Hey Ben! That's a great question and honestly I had to give it a bit of thought. If we're talking about beneficial in the big picture, I'd have to say it was moving to Brussels. That's because it happened when I was so young buy old enough to understand the world around me and it was really the first time I was challenged to question my on bias and understanding of the world in terms of what is "normal". That move really set the tone for me to be much more open minded moving forward and to keep allowing my horizons to be broadened like you mentioned.
