There's five different sources of power in the game, and these are their ratio: -Biomass burners, which must be fueled by hand and do what their name implies to various forms of biomatter, produce 30 MW of power (a set of two are a smaller variant attached to the HUB building, which only produce 20 MW). -Coal power plants, which are, y'know, coal with some water for steam, produce 75 MW of power. -Fuel power plants, which burn processed oil, produce 150 MW of power. -Geothermal generators, which are built atop natural geysers and don't take any other fuel, produce in a fluctuating range from 50 MW to 600 MW of power. -Nuclear power plants produce a staggering 2,500 MW of power. I believe there used to be different values - the ones that come to mind are nearly double this, with all biomass burners at 20, coal at 200, fuel at 500 and nuclear at 5000, but those numbers are likely wrong for what it used to be.

I have to say, the stuff Josh builds and does are crimes against Humanity, Ethics, Architecture, Sensible Design, and whatever the opposite of Eco-Terrorism is at the very least. The man's a menace and, much like the Second Pacific Squadron's voyage, it gets worse, but at least Kamchatka isn't here. Also, you HAVE to watch some of Valefisk's videos, like for instance "There's an Imposter in Victoria 3."

Nuclear power gets a bad rap because of the I think 3 power plants (Chernobyl, Fukishima and Three-Mile Island) where things went wrong due to poor construction, poor maintenance and/or poor training (not to mention all the less than flattering media portrayals like The Simpsons, and even this game makes it look worse than it would be). When built, maintained and operated properly, and with the on-site process to safely store the relatively small amount of waste, it is super clean and efficient, and as Jack said coal plants actual release more radioactive material into the environment than a properly functioning nuclear power plant.

Well, Fukushima was about to be decommissioned, was hit in the goolies by an apartment block, flooded by a tidal wave and _still tried to shut down_ , so I feel it gets at least an A for effort.
@ultmateragnarok8376 Жыл бұрын
Nuclear power gets a bad rap because coal and oil companies pay a lot of money to ensure it stays that way. It's a direct competitor that's objectively better than them in literally every possible way, so they don't want it.

You can build an un-enriched Uranium reactor. There was even a naturally occurring one except it was only delivering power in pulses (went below criticality when water evaporated, went critical when water seeped back in) and it was back when natural uranium had more of the heavy isotope by volume.
@CruelestChris Жыл бұрын
I think they debunked the Oklo "reactor" a while back, though it's still theoretically possible, it didn't happen there.

It's a shame how governments & corporations have kept a stranglehold on energy production, we should've been researching nuclear & solar power options a century ago, instead of waiting for coal & oil to start running empty. But anyway, just wait to see how he solves his waste problem in the next episodes XD

the problem are not properly working nuclear power plants, or having a good deposit, but what happens when something is not working properly or you don't have a safe deposit available that is far away from people. then it is like a lottery: millions of people join, and nobody gets any big money, until one day, someone gets the big jackpot, which in this case would correspond to an entire continent being flooded with radiation and no longer be able to live safely or grow their own food in the open. now the big question is, what is better: always some small pollution or always less pollution until a big catastophe hits ? about LGIO and Josh: please notice how old these first videos are, with no liquids, no pipes (oil in barrels only), no water on any power plants, and power plants only producing as much power as needed instead of always running on full power. watch the next videos when they introduced all these features and Josh needs to add pipes, fix water supply, etc.
