Initially they categorically turned down the idea of doing any music videos for HNIA, except then their producer left behind a few CDs of their work. The next morning they called up 4AD and said they were blown away by the music and would henceforth being making two music videos (of their choosing).

It feels to me that it symbolizes the girl's passage to adulthood being protected by the rabbit. I also think this continues in the next video, which seems to be about a miscarriage and the rabbit continues to look over her.

I was thinking that maybe it symbolized a woman retreating back into her childhood, whenever she becomes the victim of sexual abuse. Or that it's a child, being sexually abused, by the man who is banging down the door. It certainly makes you think. Which is something videos today don't do.

This is actually just 1 of a 5 part series of videos by the Quay Brothers called Stile Nacht (Silent Night). There is a sequel to this video, "Can't Go Wrong Without You" by His Name is Alive. It gives more insight to the video. While the Quay Brothers are huge into interpretation of art, and each person will see something different in a way, the theme of the videos are tension between love and abuse. The ball, or egg, the rabbit closely protects might symbolize fertility. The knocking man (which you see in the second clip) actually goes to insane lengths to obtain the egg, or impregnate the girl. The blood dripping from between her legs can mean she got her period- or had a miscarriage. Taking these into consideration, it could work as either a girl hitting puberty and is simultaneously being pursued by an older, intimidating figure. Or, as the song might imply, it's a married couple, torn by abuse which leads to a miscarriage.
