Actually his name is Zoro, with one "R". In the english version of One piece they changed it to Zolo because they thought his name was to alike Zorro, with two "R".

Thanks! ^__^ I think he reminds of Kurogane a bit too, they are both strong men with swords and have a tragic backround, but their personalities aren't that alike, Kurogane is a more deep character I think, Zoro ia a bit more easy-going. (I really like Zoro's seiyuu, he also voiceact Doumeki in xxxHolic :) ) Anyway I'm glad you liked it :D

I agree, 4kidz dub is really, really awful - not just the voices but all the stuff they edited out, they totally changed the hole series, I'm glad they don't own the rights anymore. actually they changed the spelling to zolo so there wouldn't be copyright issues or some thing like that. his name is zoro but they didn't want him confused with zorro.

It's one of the things that irk me about english dubs, when they decide to change names to "avoid confusion". Great Detective Conan was changed to "Case Closed" when it came to the US so that people wouldn't confuse it....with Konan the Barbarian.

I don't think people would get confused by that, since they're really different - the only thing they have in common is swords and well name - that was what I was referring to in this video. I don't know why the author of One piece chose that name, but I don't think it should be a taboo for two fictional characters to have the same name, if you would follow that you would run out of names eventually. I'm glad that his name is Zoro not Zolo which I think is a really ugly name.

You do know that his name is Zolo, not Zorro, right? Zolo is a Japanese anime character who is ironically a swordsman. On the other hand, Zorro is the sword-swinging masked vigilante known as the Curse of Capistrano, played by Guy Williams (Disney version) & Antonio Banderas.

In japanese R and L are basicly the same letter, so I don't agree with you. It may not matter much to them, but with our alphabeth it's a rather big difference. In Japan they do not call him Zolo, I actually think they pronounce the R really good in his name. Sure some people may pronounce it wrong, but saying everyone in Japan does it is really wrong.
