In 2014, 29-year-old Brittany Maynard transformed the conversation about medical-aid-in-dying, which allows a terminally ill patient with a prognosis of six months or less to live and is capable of making their own healthcare decisions, to self-administer prescribed medication to die with dignity. At the time, medical aid-in-dying was only authorized in four states, but today, it has been legalized in 10 states and Washington D.C. Additionally, many Americans are choosing to fly internationally to use medical aid-in-dying for non-terminal illnesses. With its growing popularity and more and more legislation being passed, Dr. Phil and his guests discuss dying on your own terms. With only one life, who says you can’t control your end date? And, is it your right to die on your own terms? (21012)

My brother in law had the same cancer. After the operation and for the last 9 months of his life there was nothing but pain. Like this gentleman says the worst are the seizures. After a seizure we had to take him to the hospital. In and out for 9 months... and at the end he fell in a coma for one day and died. Now that I have seen it first hand, i will make the decision they made. To all pro-life people , trust me for 9 months there was no life for him and the family

This is really where I get mad at pro-life people. The greatest mercy you can give a person who is suffering is to let them have an option to shorten their suffering. That should not be determined in a state legislature but with a doctor and a family.

Couldn't agree more. I am sure they would change their minds if it was one of their loved ones suffering. Who wants to have to choose to die really? It's a terrible decision to have to make. Leaving all you beloved ones behind. Nobody wants to do that. So when they do it's the biggest and bravest decision of their lives and everybody should respect that whether you agree or not. Imagine wanting to die cause you cannot stand the pain. R.I.P beautiful girl. Sorry you had to fight. XxxxxxxX

Alan B, pro-life people, are against abortions. Killing another human. A baby that doesn’t have a choice, that is unable to fight for its life. This situation is much different than that. This is an adult making a decision over her own life. She is not killing another human being. She has a terminal condition, and is able to make her own decisions. A baby that is being aborted has no decision.

I am pro-life all the way, but in this case I agree with her decision because she had a death sentence…no hope for a cure, so that is different than people who choose to kill a baby! We have this in Canada called, or medical assistance in dying (MAID). It was established in 2016. It is now up for debate recently for a new law will pass soon in March of 2023 allowing those suffering from depression or rather, mental illness to be including in medical assistance in dying clause. Some feel those suffering from a mental illness should be granted MAID. Well, others do not stating those suffering from a mental illness are not of sound mind to make that decision.

My heartfelt condolences. My dear man died of cancer 11 months ago. I never knew that grief could hurt so bad But I knew that for my family, my community, even my pets, I had to live. Fate brought me to the heart of a chubby little Irish widower, bald and smiling. His dear wife fought leukemia bravely. Our affection is new, growing each day in the fertile soil of two hearts learning to mend the other The dear lost ones are never lost. His darling wife planted flowers of joy and love in his heart as my Jim planted the songs and poems and oak strength of his native Appalatia in mine. They have become part of the sweetness, the pure and honest intimacy and the compassion we give unstintingly to one another. No longer young, we laugh with innocent mirth as we see the funny things our bodies have become, remembering the strength and beauty and passion we gave, and recieved, with such gratitude from those we held so dear. I wish this wonderful man the healing and the strength and the knowledge that love is never, never lost. It goes on my friend.

Those who are prolife should actually support right to die because those who are who are terminally ill should have a right to choose how live their final days. I have a rare genetic health disorder. While I’m mostly healthy, i really never know what severe illness I could wake up with tomorrow from the disorder, it is that unpredictable. Example, during the pandemic I came down with a fever of a104. Somehow I survived it, but my doctors were obviously real concerned it could be deadly real fast. Had it progressed to a more deadly stage, I’d like to think I’d have the option of how to handle my health care. I have a big family and I have a big family and I don’t think it would be fair for them for me to just lie in the hospital a shell, as they already went through this once when I was young. Thanks for always putting patients needs first!
