I just want to say I don't think this is unfinished art work I think Ishida did it this way as a stylistic choice.

@@insertname5371 I made a more detailed reply about this to UltimatePower, but saying “unfinished” was probably poor wording. I more so meant “unpolished” likely because Ishida didn’t have access to many assistants, if any at all. So stuff like backgrounds and inking are minimal to non existent. But honestly it also very much could be intentional. I’ve been thinking about this in circles ever since reading the comments on this video lol. So I could just be totally wrong. No clue 🤷♂️

for me, I didn't mind that the story was nothing. rather, i would be more disappointed if Hisoka's thrilling, mysterious past was revealed by another author on a whim. also, I really love how just like how it took Togari many months to learn Infinite Quad Wielding, but took Hisoka but a few seconds of combat, Hisoka learned the juggling routine that took 12 years for one of the performers to master within a day or so. It's a cool way to reverse-foreshadow Hisoka's quick learning ability, without giving us an origin for this quick learning skill itself.

I actually kinda appreciate the idea of Hisoka either always having been the way he is when we meet him or having the origin of how he got there unexplained. It would be a monumental task to explain how someone transforms from a normal child into someone like Hisoka in a believable way. Also, rare people are truly just born psychopaths. It's not entirely unrealistic to believe that someone who is egotistical, lacks empathy, and has no real relationships would end up like Hisoka if they acquired supernatural powers. Maybe he just wants to feel something truly exciting, and this is the way he discovered to do that best.

Hisoka being able to copy everyone’s talents is a knock to hi genius. Showing that he is a born prodigy. Some kid picked up off the streets that ends up being great at whatever he does. Paralleled to Chrollo’s backstory, Terror-sandwich’s knack at Nen & Ging’s ability to copy whatever he sees

I never read this before but decided to once I saw u guys made this episode about it. My only reaction after reading was "why does this exist". Like it's not bad but it adds nothing. At the very least it feels like it could fit into hunter x hunter canon unlike the movies. It feels like a volume extra extended to 80 pages.

Disagree with u guys on this...I like this one shot And that was the point from ishida... it shouldn't harm Hisoka's character and his mysteriousness which makes him appealing That's why he didn't took the "normal" backstory route I mean we got something new... How he develops bungee gum which is a really big part of Hisoka

Man I feel the thing needs a Lot of work… like it’s a preproduction sketch kind of demo of ideas for ways to play with HxH characters, his own Togashi style which he probably recognizes is LACKING the Togashi style and details… I wish I could read it without near infinite pop ups per page… I’m just wishing we saw more of the development in Togashi’s style… Still wondering if he isn’t a specialist who’s a bit crazy but because of his talents in imitation he’s capable of functionally learning new ways to use his exceptional Transmutation centred abilities if he’s even fully aware of his own potential capabilities… it feels like it’s not Restrained enough at most moments with that Togashi nuance etc. But really it’s like a Middle of a character arc that’d get half of it added to the middle of a better backstory with more nuance Which To be Fair….He does still leave a lot open from what I was able to see without crashing phone without enough antivirus stuff to properly read… I do still need to read Tokyo ghoul and I’ve only not read it or watched because of Knowing it’s well liked by a lot of people and if I do watch the most I can get is surprise from my low expectations of whichever of past few eras of anime’s standard tropes & either well or terribly animated moments & a hot girl I’ll recognise from some weird fan art or hentai I click away from cause of thinking it’s too generic looking and I can’t memorise Al these characters in stories I’ve not even read…. I do think a LOT of this is highly usable but Togashi should do his own thing whilst incorporating some of the better elements & details with a bit more nuance… The idea of making showering special for him as a character beyond some weird freaky sexual characterisation I think is the only really well done surprise that Is actually Togashi-esque… I love the idea that showering whilst thinking about this gum and seeing transmutation stuff just kinda leading to one of the most iconic abilities is nice… I’m excited about the idea of him writing with other mangaka who are into HxH & have fan manga style ideas which Could be Canon or SemiCanon… Could be a great way to continue building the world & further characterisation&elaboration… I just wonder How much of this is just Togashi being Nice about another mangaka’s idea, or if He’s thinking “well if I like it you can work with me on a new official side manga after I rewrite a bit and do some of my own work… but you’ll get a name credit on it or even coauthor level if it turns out a way that won’t upset some editors or boardroom people…” or something along those lines… Biggest issues is Not cooking strong enough on their own with Proper new stuff from togashi which he could draw so there could be a fun mixture of art styles in an official release with all of it written a bit as a tiny piece… It’s fun for how I’d imagine a filler episode for New Hunter Hunter which Hisoka overhears others saying before revealing how it’s Entirely different from his perspective cause he just told this version to īllūmí when they first chatted without any combat… That feels nuanced enough to be Togashi actually! This is what he made up for ìllūmí when they first talked but īllūmí after sharing as a warning told to Kīllùà he reveals that Most of the details he looked into and learned were False & the true parts “Far darker than the man wanted me to know…” which then we get kīllùà teasing him that it sounds like he’s found a new boyfriend, then him claiming he only did “That stuff” because it’s Important for some past assassination missions with infiltration training before he got good enough with Other Methods… or something? That sounds like fun lore that could be on brand & add to the zoldyck family relations drama & how deep & complex they all are… and the idea illumi might have a thing for Hisoka in some such way which could be both romantic love and romantic assassination/comically-over-the-top-violence/etc… that sounds appropriate for further elaboration and Us expecting them to be a cute hidden couple which Then the Illumi being replaced with folks ideas Could be a bigger shock if people expect them to have a deeper relationship? Excuse me now nearly writing some such fanfic outline or whatever… excuse thine excessive Rambles, yeah? But how can I resist offering My own take on expanding whichever aspects of characterisation Around Hīsōkà when hearing what i was only able to get through few pages of sketches with 10 popups per page on mobile… but there’s a lot to like and a lot to mostly be disappointed with because of folks expectations… However, If they’d kept quiet and released it under another assumed identity with some togashi editing & drawings by both artists I bet no one would be as disappointed because of whatever is expected of Īshídà cause of his other works… Good times like always! Cheers (down to watch more HxH gameplay but I don’t know how far easily available information on games can help with already knowing how to get through the otherwise irritating hiccups that make people feel like quitting or reloading a few seconds earlier… ooh if you have that ability to rewind gameplay when making mistakes that could be handy… Switch does that with some old console games but dunno if PCs have variants set up that smooth in emulators of whichever consoles’ games where there’s not enough translation stuff downloadable yet. Would be fun if it just felt like playing in subtitled anime, right? (Only a pain in a warriors game when audio during combat with 30 NPCs happens… hehe) They could have a cool warriors game but Action RPG with more rails to the story does sound fitting too… not like the CC2 stuff though… But they could make something cool… but I don’t trust game devs in past few years… somehow they’ll make cute form bisky look less cute and… I actually wouldn’t mind more attention to other female characters but… I know they’d lean into the weirdness in a way that makes it feel like political virtue signaling stuff… cause of course big corporations would do that so folks hate it before they even play it… or something… Gaming in the twenty twenties, aye? But looking forward to checking your next coverage on anything HunterXHunter related! Cheers

@@DrJackShelton Thank you so much for this comment! Great read. Love when we get additional perspectives from people like this. We will definitely come back to play more of those hunter x hunter games at some point! We have a busy month coming up though so it’ll probably be a bit before we can get another stream in. But it’ll happen! Thanks for sticking with us regardless though. Hope you enjoy the rest of our stuff!

@ right on! Always good times being around folks talking hunter hunter as a group, especially when chapters become so large a mystery and there’s folks worldwide trying to find hidden multilingual wordplays and gorouwase etc. Checking the games is a fun time evaluating stuff that we know the mangaka is passionate about and half the readers in everyone’s’ chats trying to figure out! I love that each time I have at least 2 new accidental theories (per hour) off the top of my head for what he’s cooking in next chapters whenever I hear you guys talk… so it’s always a good time for someone trying to use futuresight on generally unpredictable writers! & there’s a lot of Shonen manga with series that could’ve become so many incredible games, and with togashi’s stuff it feels like half these things might’ve at least gotten some level of development in Japan… I can only imagine the right game devs with Hunter Hunter obsessions getting the opportunity to try whilst no one can even try making an English version… which I suppose depends on what the original was written for, etc. But it’s been two decades since I worked on game mods on pc as well for counterstrike source so what do I know? Hehe it was easier in those days… just dropping new files in the right folders you know? I can’t believe the Fandom hasn’t made something like a torrent of English, etc. Translated dialogues for at least 2 or 3 games even if it’s just weak auto translation from a decade ago! HxH still has so much it can do with even just Nen in general! The RPG games that could be made from it all are countless! But some stuff is dependent upon handling of dark continent mythos certainly… We can only Dream for now right?! : D Fan games would give Kūrápíkà 12 Mangekyo Shárīngān abilities or something and a goofy colour choice for his Sūsànôō… with 2 or 3 other popular shonen manga games mixed in of course… so it can be even more confusing… new one piece theory; the void century started by Hisoka upsetting awakened Hisoka using gear 5… cause that makes sense for void century… “will of D=Don Freecs” kind of theory, right? … do excuse all my Non-Wánpísū Nakama… Typical shonen narrative overlap Lulz, of course…

I think ''hisoka was still hisoka'' was deliberate. This story wasn't meant to add anything to the hisoka It's just a love letter to togashi from ishida. Reviewing it like an actual one shot is not a good idea for me.

@@shirakage_ Fair enough. Like we said, this thing’s existence is totally harmless and we don’t hate it or anything. It’s just really forgettable imo. We are very clearly in the minority with this opinion though lmao. This episode was probably a bad idea in hindsight, but we really had no idea what this was other than the fact that people told us it was good and to check it out. Viewing it is a love letter is a good way to look at it though.

Is not unfinished guys 😂😭 And for me at least, I think I like it more bcs is not canon, Hisoka backgrounds is not something I really want to know tbh What I liked a lot tho, was the conversation Togashi has with Ishida 😂 you learn so much about how they see their characters, and I like that for Togashi, Suzuya was his favorite ❤

Totally understand that, but that's exactly why I wanted more from this! Since we don't have to worry about it being canon, I just wanted unrestricted Ishida writing some wild fan fiction about Hisoka. This just felt really safe, which I'm not a fan of. I do get where you're coming from though. -Kaige

4:06 “clearly unfinished”, art critique credibility dropped, smh. The one shot was never meant to show Hisoka’s origin, but a backstory. The mention of bungee gum was the highlight for me. Ishida said he would never reveal his origin as that falls into Togashi’s domain. He made comments on this story in his Tokyo Ghoul :Re Artbook.

@@UltimatePower01 This is so wild to me that so many people are saying this. Maybe saying “unfinished” was the wrong wording but it’s basically an officially published indie comic. So in a sense, yes this is finished. But only in the sense of Ishida having finished his part. He 100% didn’t have any assistants working with him on this, as evident by the fact that there are no backgrounds or inking done whatsoever. I also speculate that there was no editor involved, unless they just made very minor contributions. This project started as an April fools joke and also released while Ishida was actively working on Tokyo Ghoul:re. I’m sure he just didn’t have time/jump didn’t give him the resources to make this a complete product. Sorry for the long reply, but I apparently didn’t explain myself well enough in the episode, so I gotta defend my honor lol. -Kaige

Actually I take part of this back. He probably had at least one assistant because there are some screen tones applied and actually more inking than I thought there was. He could have done that himself though. Point still stands though, rather than “unfinished” I’ll say “unpolished”. Idk though, I could be totally wrong. Just throwing my perspective out there. 🤷♂️

@@HunterAssociationPod just because it doesn’t have the look a regular “finished” by your terms, manga, doesn’t mean it was published unfinished, and wasn’t published as intended, that’s all it is.

@@UltimatePower01 Well yeah that's what I'm saying. I think saying "unfinished" was poor phrasing. I really don't think there is a factual answer here as far as I'm aware. I don't think much of anything is known about the creation of this thing. All we can do is speculate.
