You're right to be in the dark about this. This is fairly new, some one was feeling left out and some one was feeling guilty then came somebody who thought this would be a good time to window dress and commercialize it all with Hispanic Heritage Month. 🤔🤔

Ah too bad this bakery is nothing compare to Paris Baguette bakery which is expanded to many States and even other countries they even opened in Paris France. They will be one bakery that would be first to hit over Billion 💵 earnings in just few years later.

Portos doesn't bake anything at their locations. They're all produced in a factory bakery in Commerce so its nothing too special. Also, frankly speaking the idea that a 'family of businesswomen' just up and left Cuba doesn't hold water. This was a time when working class Cuban women were entering government and higher education more and more after the Revolution so clearly potential to contribute towards a new Cuban economy was there but instead they just cut and ran away from their fellow Cubans. Easier to get a fantasy loan from a BofA banker I guess.

The potato balls are not that good. I've had good ones from Miami. They are not the same. Portos is adding some type of filler in the potato part like corn starch or something else? It's mushy like sludge...not like real potato. They add the same stuff to the croquetas. So it's more sludgy and less jamon. Everything else was ok. But for really good Cuban food you need to go to Miami. We did find another place in Monrovia... its way better then portos Merengue Bakery & Cafe.
