I'm so excited for this. I swear in early DRG the cave gen was different- in particular I fondly remember chasms, or wells as we called them, that had dirt at the bottom. If you didn't have a driller you'd have to make a network of zips and platforms to scale down.........and eventually escape in terror all the way back up.

It was great back then, fantastic even. Things have improved, but they improved upon something already amazing. In four years someone might proclaim they are happy they didn't start playing DRG today, because in 2026 DRG will probably be even better.

I never understood this perspective save for a select few games. I was glad to have been part of the journey, so many dumb quirks and exciting updates I got to look forward to, not to mention the mountain of experience I've gained for being an early adopter.

Whereas I heard about the game just a little bit after this. I'm a patient gamer and got tired of getting into games before they're finished. So I shelved the game and didn't play it until a little bit after it's 1.0 release. I think I made the right choice for myself. I see DRGhistorians comment and understand his view as well. I totally get it. We just have different perspectives.

I started playing in 2018 thanks to a Deep Rock Galactic review made by ACG. It's incredible how far Deep Rock Galactic has come and it really shows the effort of the developers.

This whole event made me go back and double check just when I first started diving deep, and going by purchase date it was update 15. So much of the legacy branch is familiar, but ever so slightly off, it's very fun.

By the way, I wanted to ask if you could elaborate on something mentioned in the DRG Legacy Edition main screen: scrolling through the patch notes, devs mentioned the introduction of electro-crystals, which were back then replacing some kind of ' Electric plants '. Do you happen to have any in-game footage of those? Rock and Pudo Shells!

Yep, it's a really cool secret behind the map, it's nice when the devs add stuff like that. I'd also love a pre alpha version with the call down turrets / floodlights and the different cave gen. I have more nostalgia for that version and it's really quite different to even the EA release.

there's a TF2 on PS3 community but I guess even that shuts down at the end of March 2023.

there's still plenty of classic servers running. its trivial to just disable all the new content with sourcemod plugins, lots of people play on good ol' itemless servers. not to mention TF2classic exists. its a free mod where the whole point is to take TF2 back to its honeymoon days just like you said, while also adding in old modes and features that were cut or lost in the transition from TF1 to 2. it also reimagines many iconic vanilla weapons, without having them be straight upgrades like in vanilla. this one has even more classic options to choose from, be it pure 2007 servers, 2009 style without TF2C's original content, custom/retro map showcases, classic wacky bullshit like cp_orange or x10 randomizer, 24/7 instant respawn, a thriving custom weapons community, and so on. the only problem is that there's usually 200ish players on at a given time, so while you can easily find an open server; it might not be the exact flavor you're looking for. overall i'd highly recommend it if youre ever tired of the typical modern tf2 bullshit.

@@turmspitzewerk It made so many unnecessary changes for the sake of giving people the impression of "oh it looks different". Instead of respecting why Valve made the choices they made. Like with the particles, they were supposed to be fast and transparent, not opaque and slower (also distracting). The needle gun is trash. And it removes 90% of current TF2's content, replacing a very small portion of it with gimmicky modes that people left playing already.
