The loss of homes in Altadena is not just devastating for obvious reasons, but also because 80% of the Black population in Altadena OWNED their homes. That is a triumph in a state that has become increasingly difficult to own property in. Scary to think that this community may be dispersed forever.

Heres the thing..... Just like the folks and malibu and pacific Palecades.... People were NOT paying attention for YEARS..... 25 years ago they proposed that high speed rail and development on that coast..... For over 25 years..... Theyv BEEN trying to connect the 710 freeway to the 210 freeway and Alta Dena was always in the way.... These are projects that have been on the books for YEARS. People continue to under estimate the government, the cities, bankers and developers.... The people stopped paying attention.... This is what happens when you dont pay attention and hold your city officials and governor's accountable. Yall better fire that governor out.... He knew.... I promise you.... He knew.

I grew up n alta-pasadena has never been great towns to grow up n or to have a familee n, has an extremely negative energy which has been looming over these towns for decades n2 this present time, tha entire truth hasn't been told about these two towns, definitely wasnt a good place for future generations from tha black community, God bless tha deceased and all good ppl which has lost all and has nothing to do with tha agenda there of those two towns, I had a dream n December that this would happen, is stunned which it actually came to pass🙏🏼

Your point? Gentrification hit everywhere. When people couldn’t afford Pasadena anymore, they went to Altadena. It is still a HISTORICAL Black community, which I’m sure had much more than 17%, as Black people don’t always trust the U.S. government enough to complete the census. Just from the news coverage alone you can see that the town had a substantial Black population, especially for the San Gabriel Valley.
