Historic!! The British Army and the French Duo Changing of the Guard Rehearsal for Historic Event
France is to become the first non-Commonwealth country to take part in the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Monday 8 April 2024, the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale.
In preparation for this historic event, The French Gendarmerie Nationale have been rehearsing at Wellington Barracks in London with soldiers from the British Army’s Household Division.
The Band of the Grenadier Guards and F Company Scots Guards trained alongside them today in readiness for Monday’s anniversary.
120 years ago the historic diplomatic agreement between Britain and France laid the groundwork for our nations’ collaboration in both world wars.
Personnel from the Gendarmerie’s Garde Républicaine and the British Army’s Scots Guards will spend the weekend together as part of the cultural exchange, and after the rehearsals today could not resist swapping headgear!

It’s actually to celebrate the Entente Cordiale. 120 years Franco British alliance, a diplomatic Agreemznt established in 1904 before WW1 kicked off and it continues in WW2. Those iconic gentlemen Winston Churchill and Charles de Gaulle that they managed to find an agreement by joining forces. The Music they play at the end of the video It’s called Marche de la Lorraine. The French Military songs is really good. Both Former and Greatest Colonial Empire Not to mention. Most successful Military powers which means most Battles won Long live Great Britain UK 🇬🇧🟥👑 Vive la France 🇲🇫🟦⚜️(Gold Lily Flower, the old coat of arms of France) If France was still the Monarchy, the relationship would have been much better and strenghten Thanks for sharing this History event. What should be remembered is that whilst we were evacuating our troops of the beaches of Dunkirk, the French held the German advance. Without their bravery we might have had to surrender to Germany. To have them stand guard goes a small way to repay that debt

@Pax.Alotin Erm the year is 2024. Take 1904 from 2024, and you get OH YES 120!!! Not too good at mathematics are you? To be truthful here!! It doesn't matter that it sorted out Egypt Morocco, Siam, and Newfoundland. It was the first real paperwork signed between the Republic of France and the UK. Do get off that high horse before you fall off. It was in 1911 that the British Government realised that they needed an actual alliance with France to stop Germany. The Entente Cordial enabled that to be done very quickly.

Well, try drill in the Canadian army, which at times went from English to French. Remember my first drill practice for replacement of the Brigadier in Germany. Half the brigade, the Royaume 22me Regiment, as well as part of the 1st RCHA, did the slope arms on command, the rest (like me) had no clue what he was blabbering about. So we just stayed as we were. The RSM quickly drilled it into our heads! The parade did turn out quite well after all.

For those interested. France has three major police forces, two national ones and a local police. The first one is the National Police. They are a police force consisting of 148.000 civilians who primary operate in urban areas. The second one is the Gendarmerie, a police force consisting of 100.000 soldiers who primarily operate in non urban areas. The third one is the Municipal Police. The 25.000 municipal police agents are funded by the municipalities, depend on the mayors and have less stringent educational requirements and have limited powers compared to the two other units. The unit you see is a detachment of the Republican Guard, one of the five components of the Gendarmerie. They are the ceremonial troops of the French Republic. This doesn’t mean they are operette soldiers. Approx. 80 % of their work is real police work. As a purely ceremonial troop, they would probably face the axe fairly quickly so the Gendarmerie makes sure they do useful work. The Republican Guard combine the taks of Protection Command of the Metropolitan with ceremonial tasks. The soldiers of the Republican Gard perform police duties like guarding beaches on horseback during the summer months or escorting the Tour de France on motorcycles but they are not a fighting force, unlike the Household Regiments.

In France, the National Gendarmerie is with the National Police, one of two national law enforcement forces, and a French Armed Forces unit. The Gendarmerie is also the military police in the French army, called Provost for forces deployed overseas. I wonder if the Garde Républicaine (calvary) will also participate in the Monday celebration.

Wellington himself told that he was about to call the retreat when Blücher arrived. He was nervous because he knew that a full french Corp (Grouchy) was somewhere and he had to keep the road of Brussels opened. Then No, if Blücher hadn't arrived or if he had to fight Grouchy, it was over for the british. It would have been a tactical victory for Napoleon, not sufficient to obtain favorable terrm of peace and the arrival of Russians and Austrians would have surely eans France to loose the war, but Wellington wa sin difficulty when Blücher arrived. Some Gendarmes of the french republican Garde. probably a mix of the 2 infantry regiment of the Guard and maybe few gendarmes of the 1st cavalry regiment of the same Garde. They are too far to say from which unit of the Garde they truly are. I would need to see their armory on their uniform... generally on the side of the neck, there is written a number (1 or 2 for 1st and 2nd regiment, also, the amory of the cavalry is different of the one of infantry)

1940, 2nd biggest army in EU lost everything in 2wks and became willing nazis servants. In 1944, US/UK/CA/PL liberated their people so they could run into GE as victors in 1945 receiving their own occipation zone. Now they proudly push-up their chests and being prised by weakest UK ever... Hilarious...
