Ahh 3813 .... what a cruel fate you suffered. In bits all over the state :( She was a favourite of many of the drivers my Dad would often say.

Are there any surviving photos or footage of the coal loader which used to be near where the old signal box stands? It was there until the late seventies but when I moved to Young in 1984 it had been removed. there are still some ramps in evidence.

Love the look of the 57. Shame the 58 was a flop.
@allanliversidge98272 жыл бұрын
D58 class was not a flop. They were a different locomotive entirely to a D57 class. The department pooled them with D57 class , which should not have happened. D58 were a freight version of C38 class. Given the right coal, loads within there capability e.g roughly 10% less than D57, and good well programmed maintenance, put on an enthusiastic good Goulburn crew and you have a great locomotive. D58 failures were actually less than D57 and AD 60 class. Don't write them off through heresy or crews bad tales of them. A drop of 20 psi boiler pressure in either a C38 or D58 without a reduction in load could bring both classes undone.
