Thank you for filming this! I am a direct descendant of Matthias Hoover. I never knew about this place, but Isaac Hoover, also a descendent, and other Hoover family members went on to Burnet County Texas and established Hoover's Valley. There is a large cemetary there that has been well taken care of and a chapel was also built on the property. Sad to see this one has deteriorated. With enough research, census records, etc., someone might be able to determine who all is buried here. Hans Huber my 8th great grandfather immigrated to the United States in 1710 on a ship called the Mary Hope. He was a Mennonite. The name Huber was anglicized after about 3 generations to Hoover. Hans is buried in Lancaster County PA.

Thanks for sharing this history. Very interesting to read the extra details you provided. I grew up in Central Texas and have been to Burnet many times. If I ever return there, I'll be sure to look for Hoover's Valley and the cemetery there.

I have completed about 99% of my ancestry research, which centered on Hoovers in the early 1700s who settled in the blue ridge mountains of Rowan County NC. At the time of the Revolutionary War it seems they went north, to south western Va, to serve in the Virginia Line of General Daniel Morgan. They stayed there in the blue ridge area of Lee County Va until the Wilderness Trail was cut through the mountains in around 1830. I have often wondered if we're related to Matthias. My clan went west and settled in the Ozarks of northern Arkansas and southern Missouri in 1833 and most of them have been in Dallas County Mo ever since. Many of the names in my family tree come from Tennessee too. In reading about Matthias I noticed how he watched several sons and nephews who went off to fight for the south. One of his sons however, chose to serve the federal army and died at Andersonville..............a sobering thought for sure. It is interesting how about 70% of the Hoovers in the USA came in through Pennsylvania - which is logical since many of the folks there were German/Swiss origins. The majority of them went westward while remaining above the Mason Dixon line. My Hoovers seem to have come in through a port in NC, and stayed south of the Mason-Dixon line, for which I am very thankful. They were pioneers who loved this nation, and served in every war. It is an honor to hear about your link to MH, and I too enjoyed this video Mattias was about the same age as two of the Hoovers in my line, who I mentioned above. Even though MH came in through Pa I thought he might still be linked to my group, since they took similar journeys as the nation expanded westward, and there were not a whole lot of Hoovers at that time.

I am David Hoover descendant of Mathias son James. Been here a few times over the decades. Even spent considerable time cleaning it up. There are other Hoover family cemeteries nearby. This however is the first.

I don’t know if you have heard anything about the Tallahoma campaign. During the civil war many soldiers marched through there and there was a whole battle of Hoovers gap. keepin in mind how many soldiers were in the war jus in general and how many soldiers were apart of the campaign (I heard 90,000 in total! May be wrong) it makes you think blood shed must of definitely happened all around this area. There is also a confederate cemetery around that area.

Yes sir! I’ve actually been to that confederate cemetery too. It’s very interesting. A lot of history all through there
