My fist roommate at MSU in the early 60’s was a yooper from Iron Mountain; great fellow. My four years in and around Mi. in the mid 60’s was super; great state but not so sure with what’s going on in Lansing now. Folks in the UP are just that, good hardworking folks. Thanks for the photos.

Would you be able to provide the link to the photo at 10:12 with the man next to the pine stump? Such a powerful photo. I tried using the National Archive catalogs but could not find it. Your videos and work is amazing and should be shown in local schools. I think some longer format videos utilizing your collection with some narration behind them would be super duper yooper cool.

My oldest daughter was at Tech. for five years. I didn’t spend a lot of time up there but I didn’t have to to fall in love with the UP.

You have probably been asked this before but is there a way to purchase a few of these historic pictures? Thank you

Is there a site where I could look up names of people that worked in the CCC.

There was a big old white pine in Dafter twp i believe it was. It was about 4 ft at the base. It stood on top of a hill. It was so tall you could see it sticking up above the tree line, from 8 miles away. In the late 70's it got hit by lightning and blew about 30 ft of the top out of it. That caused it to die.

If you look at any large white pine they can have very ill-regular looking branches at strange intervals from wind damage. Without other large trees they stand out and are susceptible to lightning strikes also. I go to the east branch of the big two hearted river to see massive trees, very old growth stuff, state of Michigan got it during the depression of 1930’s when they couldn’t pay the stump tax. Thanks for your interest.

I see a picture here of a Delft theater in Munising. I know there was one in Escanaba and Marquette. Was "Delft" a person's name who owned all of them? And it's strange that "delft" is a dutch word meaning the blue/white pottery that they made.

Should have been the 51st state but that was then and now just a tourist stop where you can buy a pasty and your kids have to move away to get a job

Gary is right. There is no longer an economy here. I live in Ontonagon county and my 2 older kids moved away because there's no job opportunities here.

@@ClintEastwoodenDoors I have not lived there in a long time but last time I was there it seemed like meth has taken over a lot of the small towns like much of the country,it used to be booze when I was there, car rides where measured in beers not miles.
