I'm so blessed to have pioneer ancestors that have taught me how important it is to be faithful to Jesus Christ, by giving up their lands, houses, etc, so that they could travel to a distant place, which is what God wanted them to do.They didn't know if they would survive the journey, or how long it would take, but were faithful despite huge afflictions! Some of us don't have pioneer ancestry, but are spiritual pioneers right now. These brothers and sisters are heroes to me as well as my own ancestors!

Thanks to the people of Kanesville from back then. They were the good samaritans to our members when they needed the most

This is just so awesome! I love that our leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are making known to the world of the truth about just how difficult it was and what odds those early members beat in order to survive and continue on in faith and obedience. My own ancestors (the Parkinson family) were part of this early group of pioneers. They were members of the Willie & Martin handcart companies. They started out with Mother and Father and 9 children, but only 4 of the children made it to the Salt Lake Valley. Every one else died. One of the boys died in the harness, pulling his family through unimaginable trials of freezing weather, snow, and icy rivers. He was only 14. Both mother and father died of illness and starvation, trying to save food for their children. One of the daughters that did make it had terrible frostbite and lost parts of her feet. When the siblings arrived, they had no parents or family and were taken in separately by kind strangers. Those children were among the many rescued by the rescue party sent out by Brigham Young. When I look at the trials my ancestors went through because of their desire to worship freely and their faith in God, I know that I cannot be the weak link ~ I know that I could never stand before them in the hereafter and say "sorry, don't care about your sacrifices." I know that the shoulders we stand on, the path that we walk, is only available because of the bone weary work of those ancestors who dared to pave a path for us, and I have no excuses that I could ever face them with that would seem valid as to why I might wander off of it. I revere those ancestors, I love them for their hard work and sacrifice, and I hope to be able to face them in the hereafter and say "thank you, I love you, and I tried my best to not waste your efforts." ❤❤❤❤❤
