Taylor's Mill
Taylor's Mill is a stone grist mill built circa 1760 by Colonel John Taylor who owned and ran the mill.
On April 5, 2024, the mill suffered major damage from the 2024 New Jersey earthquake, a rare 4.8 magnitude earthquake
that shook much of the Northeast United States.
Colonel John Taylor (1744-1811) built this grist and flouring mill c. 1760 on the Rockaway Creek. It supplied grain
for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The mill had many subsequent owners, including Eleanor and Manning McCrea.
The Old Millstone Forge is home to what was the longest operating blacksmith shop in America Since 1693.
It served the area as an active blacksmith’s shop until the death of its last blacksmith
Edward H. Wyckoff, in 1959, who served a remarkable 64 years. The building was restored by area
residents in the 1960s and is currently operating as a blacksmith shop and living history museum
by the Millstone Forge Association.
