Appreciate you watching, Ben. I always loved that story. CFB helped reunited the culture in this country following the Civil War (game began in 1869, just four years after it ended). This is a fantastic example of what I mean. Intersectional friendships and a common game to bring people together.

One of my favorite things about that stadium is walking down that bridge at night and then boom, there’s Sanford all lit up. That open endzone really gives you the best view of the stadium, you get to appreciate how massive it is

sanford is my favorite stadium, it hosts my favorite team, it hosted a soccer event in the 1996 Olympics, bringing fame to Georgia and uga, and its the largest stadium in my state and has a seating capacity of 96000-97000 making it one of the largest

The goat was at the first game. After they lost the goat never was used again. They officially became the bulldogs in the early 20s. Before that they were called the Red and Black, or other things. For a brief period they were called wildcats. But never the Goats

had to believe there is no stature or memorial to Hershel Walker at Sanford Stadium. There is a statue of Walker in Athens but it's not even on the campus. They need to move it to the stadium. This Heisman and other memorial is on display in Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall but nothing at the stadium. If there is, which I am not 100% sure, then it should have been mentioned in the video all politics aside. He was one of the greatest college football players to play the game and deserves the respect for that.

She got the mascot story completely wrong. The mascot changed in 1920 to the Bulldogs. It got its live mascot when Sonny showed up with his pup, but the mascot changed decades before that.

You are VERY incorrect, little miss, and you should not be allowed to give tours if you do not know the history. Prior to using the name "bulldogs", in 1892 a goat was brought to the games with a black coat that had "UG" on the sides. This was an unofficial mascot, as the team was simply known as the University of Georgia football team. In 1894, a bull terrier names Trilby became our unofficial mascot and many speculate that this is where our "Bulldogs" title came from. It was first used in 1901, but wasn't officially changed until 1920...nine years before Sanford Stadium was even built. During the 30s, 40s, and 50s, many people would bring bulldogs to the games, and parade them around the sidelines. When Sonny Seiler starting bringing his bulldog (Hood's Ole Dan) to the games in 1956, he wore a hand-knitted jersey by his wife, something the previous bulldogs did not have. Wally Butts, then head coach, asked Sonny if he could use Hood's Ole Dan as the team's mascot, and Uga I was born. Since then, every bulldog has come from the line of Hood's Ole Dan.

I was a child in 1980 and watched from the tracks
