I appreciate this rare footage of Michigan City. I am a second generation American born man of Syrian/Lebanese heritage. I was born in Michigan City in 1960. My dad was born in Michigan City in 1928. Watching this film gave me a glimpse of what my dad saw and experienced as a youth. We lived at 303 Washington Street . Right on the corner. Our house was were the Michigan City Post Office now stands. Across the street from our home was the Jaymar-Ruby factory which was still up and running in the early 60's. My Uncle lived next door to the Jaymar factory. It is now an empty building with a vacant lot next to it where once the home of my Uncle stood. My great grandfather and grandfather worked their entire lives for Pullman Railroad. By the time I was walking to St. Mary's Catholic School in the first and second grades, Pullman was shut down. It was eerie to walk by it. The railroad yard stood as a silent sentinel; like a ghostly reminder of a better time of days long gone. My dad would take us to Scholls for ice cream. My mom would take us down to the beach. We would walk across the bridge. Across from our home stood the Court House. I have memories of watching from my upstairs living room window, Robert Kennedy giving a speech on the Court House steps. I also remember during the Watts riots in Los Angeles at the time, the National Guard posting soldiers around our home and street. We also had a curfew we had to abide by. Our neighbors were black, we were an Arabic family. We were blessed to have good neighbors. There was no racial tension. My Dad's brother and his family lived in Gary Indiana in the early 60's. Gary was a wonderful middle class neighborhood. Things have changed. I have watched videos posted by wonderful individuals who have filmed Michigan City just driving around with a mounted camcorder. I was shocked to see things I remember as a child looking like they did exactly back in 1965; as if frozen in time. Again, I am thankful for all the hard work to make this historical footage a reality. In a small kind of way, I would like to think that somewhere in those crowds walking around the waterways, the zoos, the parks and the parades were my family members. I got to see life as dad saw it back when he was a boy of 7 in 1935.

Thanks for posting this film. When I was a child my favorite was the Rock Garden with it's ponds and the Mill House and it's Water Wheel. At night the Mill House had a light inside that was lit.
