a few years ago at a garage sale i offered the guy $20 for a pair of hand grips for Smith & Wesson handgun, he accepted. they were unique, like new and he had replaced his wood grips with these rubber grips, and sold me the wood ones. these were hard to price, not an example to go by, so I put them at auction starting at $20.......and they took off, by the second day they were at $450, and I was concerned that I had misrepresented them, so I emailed the high bidder at the time and asked why they were going so high......he said they were in mint condition from the late 50's to early 60's and you don't see these anymore. well at the end they sold for $705 to someone in Texas, i would have never guessed.

I saw the shirt in other videos. Been a Petty fan my whole life. A co-worker randomly stopped down a few years ago and he came out to say hi. I've been waiting to see this shirt listed but $700 is out of my budget. I had hoped to see it cheap but so did others. Being a Barry shirt only adds. Those were the days you could walk into a shop, sweep floors (help paint) and end up a driver ( Bobby Labonte) or crew chief.

I saw you pick that shirt up I picked up something special not history like yours. It was a XL exclusive Ralph Lauren Indian Head ( large on the front looked like the nickel ) sweater payed $6.99 sold it for a little over $800. Makes you feel good.

I would definitely spring for insurance on that. Also, I've sold only a few items where I've made that kind of profit, and I always ask the buyer if they want me to pay the extra few bucks to require a signature upon delivery. So far, they've always said no, but I'd hate for it to wind up in the hands of porch pirates.

I'm a history nut myself (though not a professional nut, like you!) and I'm wondering how many folks out there have bought something that they need up donating to a museum, or to a school, etc. My two examples are totally different: one was a "suite of currespondence" (I didn't even know what to call it, so I used that) of letters, notes, and telegrams from the 1930s when one of the Justices on the NC Supreme Court resigned his position to go back into private practice (with one of the big Tobacco companies in NC at the time.) There was a carbon copy of his letter to the Governor, plus the Governor's reply, letters of congratulations (?) and well wishes from some of the other Justices on the bench, greetings and welcome from some of the folks in the city he was moving to (Winston Salem, of course), including bankers and hoteliers. It was fascinating stuff. And after that were some hand written correspondence he had received from people who had (or wanted to have) business before the court, asking his help with some person's charges (look into the appeal, etc.) It. Was. Fascinating. Instead of selling that (it was in a big tray lot of stuff and was just "assorted papers" when I got it) I set it aside to present to the NC Collection at the University of NC (from which I was graduated.) And that got me thinking that I should start a Donate box for my university library for relevant or historically interesting books that would be of use to a university library. Biographies of Presidents' and their wives, etc. stuff like that. One of the items in the same box lot was a notebook of old radio scripts from the 1940s of 15 minute radio shows about historic events around the state, famous NC ghost stories, etc. That one is in the donation box too. I simply had no interest in reselling them (they would have brought very little money anyway) and so I sent them along where they would do the most good. Thanks for bringing back that memory with the Petty team shirt. It helped me remember that for all the headaches and heartache we put up with in The Business, there's still plenty of reason to have fun, *and* find it very fulfilling.

I love working with comics. Tedious but fun. Some of the original things I was selling on ebay. I like the strategy there. Unless you find specific key issues worth more, selling them in those runs and character/title lots are best.
