Thank you--much appreciated. The actual Jesus lecture/discussion happens in class--this semester I am just recording the purely informational stuff to be watched at home as I make this a hybrid course. But, I'll try to get to doing that one when I have some time--thanks for watching.

You are so invited for dinner anytime you are in Connecticut my good professor!!! I have watched all your videos and crave for any new ones. Please continue the enlightenment!!! P.S. I am sure you would be excommunicated from the Eastern Orthodox Church for all you have mentioned, especially for Paul of Tarsus!! I would be right there with you!!! Marcian would be with us also!!

Anything we need to know about John The Baptist and his ministry regarding the Pharisees? Is it true his father was the High Priest of the Temple in Jerusalem?

Sir, could you consider doing lectures on philosophy. As much as I love this one's on Christianity, I am, sorry to say, not a Christian and it do not wish to pursue it beyond some preliminary basics. I love your style of teaching and you are incredibly eloquent and it would be immensely helpfull to me (and I am sure for a wide range of viewers) if you could consider doing lectures on philosophy. I submit these in earnest respect.

Well, my channel began (accidentally) when I posted some Plato lectures and Nature Philosophy lectures for my online classes. I mostly post things I teach, and am working on online Medieval Humanities class now--but many like you have given me such positive responses that I am looking into upgrading my equipment and going about the subject matter more systematically. Aristotle is often requested so I will likely start with that.

The more careful translation of the NRSV renders it "...and the BREATH returns to God who gave it." God breathes the breath of life into all living beings, and that breath returns to God upon death--animals as well as humans. There is not enough to warrant the belief that they had, at least not quite yet, the concept of the personal immortality of the soul, as Ecc. 3:18-21 makes clear.

What did ancient Hebrews think of regarding the tales of Enoch and Elijah being taken? seems like a quasi afterlife
@georgebrooks77753 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what the official Jewish position on this is, but the uncertain ends of Enoch, who walked with God and was not, and Elijah, who was taken off in a fiery chariot, did inspire a strange Christian medieval belief: that when Anti-Christ came, they would return and preach against him, get killed, and then the end of days would come. This detail was necessary because they had not officially "died" and would need to in order to fulfill the requirements for the Apocalypse. Lots of medieval artistic images exist of Enoch and Elijah returning and preaching before their pre-ordained final demise.

@@georgebrooks7775 Very interesting! I'm not Jewish, but it just entered my mind when you were discussing the history of afterlife. Thank you for your response

jesus is not the god he is just a prophet
@georgebrooks77753 жыл бұрын
That is the one thing Muslims and Jews agree on--that the Christians went overboard and deified their prophet.
