Historical Details in Azur Lane Ship Designs: HMS Belfast

As someone who's both an Azur Lane enjoyer and a history nerd, it's been fun to pick out the historical details that go into many of the Azur Lane shipgirl designs and personalities.

Also to note: Both her skills (Smoke Screen and Burn Order) are direct references to her playstyle in World of Warships. Her typical gameplay in Tier 7 is to lay a smoke screen, sit in it and burn enemy ships down by spamming High Explosive Shells.

@@setiem13 Well yeah. WoWS Belfast came before AL Belfast. So it's more of a WoWS reference instead. Even before the official collaboration with World of Warships began, some ships were given skills that clearly reference commander skills or signal flags from the other WoWS. For example, WoWS players will immediately recognize Belfast's "Burn Order" skill that makes her HE shells set the enemy on fire more often as "Demolition Expert.", while Glowworm's "Ramming Speed" skill, which causes her to do more ramming damage and take less in return, corresponds to the effects of the "Hotel Yankee" signal flag, or Atago's "Arsonist" which acts similar to Belfast's but with extra burn damage bonus and having the English version being named after a World of Warships achievement medal for destroying an enemy ship with more than 50% fire damage. There are also a few nods to Asian memes/nicknames, like Cleveland being called "dad", "Clevedad" or "Clevebro".

Just toured the HMS Belfast when I visited London a couple months ago. Absolutely beautiful ship. Ironically I had just gotten her in game while in England lol
