Historical fiction is my favorite genre and historical mysteries are definitely the icing in the cake. I really like C.J. Sansom’s Matthew Shardlake series which takes place in Tudor England.

And Then There Were None was the first book I read by Agatha Christie, and I don’t remember the second one, but I quit after that because she pulled something out at the end that the reader was not made aware of in both, so it felt like a trend in her writing that I didn’t care for. I know that puts me in a definite minority. I do love the Phryne Fisher stories, and loved the TV program as well. The rest of your recommendations sounded good as well.

The Flavia de Luce mysteries by Alan Bradley are a hoot! Lots of people urged me to try the first one- Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, and I was reluctant (I don't know why). But once I read it, I ripped thru the rest of the series! I now eagerly await each installment. I also love the Matthew Shardlake mysteries by C.J. Sansom, and the Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell series by Laurie King.

Not a historical mystery, but I have to recommend to you the book I just finished! It seemed like something you’d enjoy as much as I did. It’s Stranded by Sarah Goodwin. It’s a thriller about a group of people who agree to live on an island in Scotland on their own with no contact with the outside world for one year as part of a reality show. Only one ends up surviving. It was one of the most unique thrillers I’ve read, and an easy 5 stars from me, which doesn’t happen very often with thrillers lately.

If you like the PD James stories, have you read any of her detective novels? The Adam Dalgliesh series are great, and there are also two featuring Cordelia Gray which are really good too.

I would recommend The Hidden People by Alison Littlewood. It's a historical mystery set in the late 1800s, and talks a lot about class and folklore. Very psychological, and a bit feminist. Apparently it is based on a real story too. I thought it was such a unique reading experience. One of the best things about it is how you understand more than the narrator does, but still way too little until it is all too late.

Loved this video as historical mystery is my favourite genre! I’m enjoying the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear; just be aware that the first are a little slower as they’re setting the scene, but all the ones I have read are set between the 2 world wars and I listen to them all as the narrator is perfect for the era and character of Maisie 😊📚

Have you heard of People of Abandoned Character? I recently heard about it, and I haven't read it but it's just stuck on my mind. None of my libraries have it, and I don't buy a lot of books, but the premise just sounds so interesting, one of these nights I'm going to click purchase. This right here is exactly the kind of video I need. I read a ton of thrillers, but lately I've been getting more into historical fiction, fantasy (more witchy than anything), and I also love the thrillers I've read placed in Europe, and as an American, there's something about Europe to me that is just more historical, just this other interesting world. That all needs way more nuance to explain, but I won't write a novel here :) Thank you for all these recommendations!!!! Edit: Also, The Silent Companions might be something of interest for you and any who read these comments. Cheers!

I have read The Lost Apothecary and enjoyed it pretty much, it was a fast read. I have also read Things is Jars which I did not like or enjoy at the least, unfortunately. I am not a native speaker of English (I am from Hungary), and that book was difficult to read for me. I do not really know why, but that book was just not for me sadly.
