Thanks for the brief video. I'd been checking on the status of the movie every so often, and figured it wasn't gonna happen. A mini-series sounds like a better idea anyway, maybe it'll be on Netflix.

I think Netflix could do the series pretty well. Yeah I just saw the news for it and thought I would share really quick.

Great news. I loved that book. Couldn't put it down. It would definitely make an engaging mini series. There's a lot of nostalgia around the 16bit era, I reckon this could prove to be a decent ratings winner

At the very least it will test the waters for other similar projects. I think a Atari movie would be wild with all the crazy stuff going on there.

@@HistoricNerd I like a video game related doc. The film about finding the ET games in the landfill is great as is indie game the movie. Also big fan of your content. Very pleased there are channels like yours giving insight to the history of the games industry. Keep up the good work

I really want to think this adaptation will stay in 90s game culture and avoid the toxic cesspit of the current "game critique" cliques plaguing the industry

I loved the Pirates of Silicon Valley, and If it's anything like that it will be awesome. Hopefully It gets the proper budget.

I feel like this project will get what it needs. But we'll have to wait and see what actually happens

I'm personally not so hopeful. There are some pretty glaring errors in the book and while it is readable, it's cheesy as hell. I do not look forward to the moment Trip Hawkins screams "BUT THEY'RE MY RAZORS!" If all goes according to plan, this will be the first docudrama about the video game industry and I don't expect the producers to have a massive insight into the finer points of the business, which Harris actually gets rather well. They'll skip past the parts of the measured Nintendo takeover and them having their own philosophy about the stability of the business to make them out and out villains. The book is already a hagiography of Kalinske and I don't believe they will try to add even the bit of self-doubt that Harris gave to him through inner monologues. I want it to work because I want more of this stuff to be made. It's pretty nutty that it's taken so long to get anything going, especially after that Atari film has been swimming around for like a decade. I'm expecting it to be overblown but a bit forgettable in the grand scheme of things. I just really really hope they get the legal/respect stuff in order so it doesn't sour any future attempts.

That part with Trip always seemed off for him. The guy in reality was smooth as hell, so that part trying to paint him as a greese ball seemed off. But I can agree with you. Im still hopeful based on the people they're getting on board. I think some folks from halt and catch fire are assisting. So I remain optimistic about the project. I think at the very least it should be entertaining.

I think the potential this has to bring up new stories is understated. If it’s a hit, that will certainly happen. If it’s a flop? Well, it’s back to business as usual.

@@HistoricNerd The main thing is that Kalinske didn't even broker that deal, it was Katz. The entire conversation is fictitious from the top down. Joe Montana was on the verge of being finished already when Kalinske came in.

@@georgehenson2412 I'd noticed that. The book playing at the next level seems to have a much accurate time line. I give the the console wars more slack than I should because I enjoy the story. I totally understand where you're coming from though.

@@HistoricNerd Ken knows his stuff. Wish they'd make things based on his work instead! Though I may be biased on that since I contributed interviews to his arcade book.
