Aloha Karla, It's Kristi in Hawaii again :) I sure do love your reviews! Because of your reviews, we now use the IEW Writing course...love it so much!!! Spelling You See... I too love that they are doing copy work and not just memorizing, I see a difference in their retention with the chunking and all the Spelling You See has them doing and I love that they are required to write...with a pencil and not be online!!! We are also doing the Geography Songs and we color the map that is included in the songbook and we do as you recommended. While we are singing each song we point to all the countries that were introduced and they colored. It is very fun and a very effective way to learn Geography! LOVE IT. :) We were already doing Teaching Textbooks Math! We LOVE them all Karla! We are so grateful for your reviews, suggestions, and support! I have to say, you are by far my favorite curriculum reviewer! :) I just had to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the hard work you do putting these reviews out for mothers like me who love working with our kids and are trying to give them an interesting, effective, fun, and creative curriculum. Thank you for your guidance, Karla!!! It is that time of year again, when I am checking out the new reviews and making resource lists for the coming school year. I am about to place a bunch of orders for both curricula as well as resources. I like this as a history resource but am not sure which subscription I should order. My soon-to-be 5th grader is advanced in everything and my soon-to-be 8th grader is at grade level???? Do I need to order both or will one work for both and keep both of their interests??? Also, can you please explain exactly what the subscription comes with? Is there a place to see the content for the coming year in the different age group subscriptions? Is the video series aligned with the core standards? I am hoping I can get away with only spending funds on one of the two age groups and not have to spend funds for both. We started reading The History of The World Book Series last year and I really liked it. I would read to both of my daughters together as they worked in their cursive workbooks as part of our morning routine, it really worked well as they would just sort of melt into their writing all the while their minds followed along with the story that I read. Next year I will be introducing the Joy Hakim The History of US series which I have read a lot of really good reviews about and am very excited to dive into her series of books! But I think this History Alive Online would be a great addition to their History and I know they would love it since you regard it so highly! I have learned to trust your suggestions and wholeheartedly know that it will be a winner! :) Mahalo for your great suggestions and reviews! Take good care and Aloha!

You are so kind and I think you are using such great things! You can check out History Alive for a whole month for free! You can really make it work for your kids however you want. Your oldest will enjoy the videos in the younger age group for sure. I wouldn't bump your youngest up. I would say to go sign up for a month for free this summer and then you can get a feel for how you want to use it!

Hi, Did this change to History plus? It seems we cannot access History but once every three years?

This looks so great for kids! We use GR for science, geography, history, social studies though, so I can’t see having time for this, darn, it looks so fun! I’ll keep it in mind for the future 🙂

I had initially thought that as well, but since the videos are only 5 minutes, I just have it as something my kids can do independently, and they have learned so much, even if all they do is watch the video!

Do you know if this is a Christian or secular curriculum? Just curious when science topics are covered what perspective they will be covered from. My preference is a Christian standpoint. Do you know if Daniel, the creator is a Christian or not? I tried checking on the link is there was a FAQ section on their site but didn’t see anything. Thanks so much!

Hi Megan! I know Daniel personally and he is a Christian. He is careful to cover and present topics in such a way that is wholesome, and any family can appreciate. He leaves tricky topics that are going to have different viewpoints to be covered at home. This way his program can appeal to everyone. That being said, we are a Christian family, and I NEVER worry about what he shares. It's always very appropriate and just full of great facts and information that aren't topics one would debate (ie. interesting facts about animals, the human body, points in history, etc).
