I agree. It made it a lot of work for me to have to search the text for the answers as I checked his work. Science is not my strong subject so the answers were not something I knew off the top of my head! That being said, my son just finished his first high school science class with a 97% overall. I would say it was worth the effort to do this program on both our parts as he was extremely well prepared for high school.

Wonderful! I think it is a fantastic way to prepare college-bound students! My oldest completed her first semester of university this December, made the Dean's List, and got an overall grade of 99% in her first university English class. :)

I am thinking on using this curriculum. I am so happy I came across your channel and especially this video as this is where we plan to start as well.How do you feel about this curriculum now? For this specific course, did you do much prep before you started the course? Also, if you have stuck with the curriculum, how do you organized it? Thank you fellow Albertan! Though I now have loved to the East Coast 😊

Great video!! Do you think there’s too much of a jump to go from level A year 1 to level B year 2? My 8th grader started out at level A year 1. His past curriculum didn’t really touch a lot on writing and that’s why I started out at level A…I probably could’ve started out at level B but we’re past that now lol

please tell us how you plan your high school to get credits and a diploma here in Alberta - I have one kiddo who can tolerate all high school online to get through it and get a diploma, but another kiddo who probably cannot, yet wants a diploma. our school only supports fully online for high school diploma and graduation, and we love our school and don't want to leave and are torn...

That’s a giant book 😳. Was your student able to get through the whole thing in one school year?
@karlacanon2507
@karlacanon2507 4 ай бұрын
It IS a giant book! I typically recommend that students do it over two years. We did complete it in one school year, but I counted his writing in the student notebook as his LA until after Christmas, so that gave him more time to work on it. He also watched the experiments being done on the additional video resource and didn't actually perform them himself, and that was a huge time-saver. He also did some of the questions orally when it started taking too long. With those modifications he got through it in a year but did put in a huge chunk of time each day into science!

I'm so glad to see you're back. I'd like to videos on how you use IEW for the 11 year old. I'm currently using IEW but not too sure if we're doing it right. My son who is 11 seems always take the shortest route/the least words possible to finish his writing assignment from IEW SS1A.
@karlacanon2507
@karlacanon2507 6 ай бұрын
Sounds good! I do want to do an IEW update! That being said, I think it's pretty normal for kids, particularly boys, to write as efficiently as possible. I find as they get into the later lessons, and have more things they need to include in their checklist, that helps force them to use more words and vary their sentence patterns.

Hi! Thank you for this video. It’s one of the best I’ve seen on AAR. I have a slightly older struggling reader who doesn’t like babyish things. Would you say this program was very effective even without using much of the activity pages?
@karlacanon2507
@karlacanon2507 7 ай бұрын
Yes!! I thought this program was great for older kids when modified by leaving out the majority of the activity pages. When I did it with one of my kids who was on the older end, we mostly stuck to doing the lesson, and doing the activity pages where the student reads through the lists of words. We also did the word flashcards and read the stories in the readers. That worked well for us and I find this program is less babyish than lots of the ones out there!

Hi I have a 6 grader and she’s doing sssa1 And it’s amazing. The stories are easier but I rather her really grasps the organizing part of writing a paper! We supplement her literature w novels. She’s a great reader! Next year I think I’ll just skip sssA2 and just put her directly w sss1b which is for middle school. The stories will be more challenging but she’ll have mastered the steps to writing a great papers. I hope that helps! It’s totally worth it! Also, fix it grammar is awesome. They go together

Basic parts of speech are woven into the lessons. Other than that it is a writing curriculum more than grammar. That being said, when my kids were young, it was enough for us, and we just focused on writing in complete sentences, punctuation, etc. Doing more formal grammar instruction when they were older worked well for us!

Thank you for this!! I’m switching this year with all 4 of my students… I was having a hard time understanding what teachers materials I really needed for each Sss. Seems I only need one of the teachers courses and the rest I can do only the basic set. For a junior in high school who has never done this curriculum would you still recommend C year one? Thank you again. I’ll be viewing more of your videos! 💕🙏🏼

I just started with explode the code. I just flipped through book 1 first 3 lessons. It seems like sooo many worksheets for 3 days just practicing "a". And a lot of repetition Do you end up doing all the pages eventually (like 3 or 4 days to complete all of lesson 1) or do you pick 2 or 3 for each lesson and then move on to the next lesson next day?
