At that time, both Communists and Anarchists were called "REDs" because most people did not see the difference. But by 1919, the difference was becoming clear to those who knew.

They were not wrong in that sense, they were wrong in thinking the Anarchists supported the Bolsheviks. Just like today the VAST majority of Anarchists are Anarcho Communists, and the Anarchists have the same end goal as state communists at the end of final stage Communism. Emma Goldman, Alexander Berkman, Lucy Parsons, Peter Kropotkin, Errico Maletesta, Carlo Tresca, Luigi Galliani and most the IWW were Anarcho Communists.

LOL, then you were wrong about being right, yet you were right, and I was right about being wrong, but was wrong, or something. It looks like it was a genuine typo in the original script, like the 6 wasn't properly pressed down all the way, as it appears that way in our lessons and ensuing questions and printed lessons. But we have it fixed now, so we owe you a great big thanks. I'll add a note to the video, so at least people can see the proper date. Thanks again for the helping hand!

Nicely done, and unfortunately it seems the way this economy is headed, and as the "Mexification" of our economy deepens, may give rise to a new "red scare". As you may have already picked up Robert, I am socially bent to the left, but not necessarily totally bent to the left on the economy. But the greed of the very richest is sending me that way.

True communism is stateless. Dude above must not understand that the final goal at the end of late stage Communism is the exact same as the goal of the anarchists. The spilt happened between Bakunins faction and Marx's faction at the first international but they still have the same end goal.

I know where you're going with this. You're saying that we haven't entirely learned any lessons from the "Red Scare" of the 1920s. Unfortunately, you're quite right. We've had quite a few Red Scares since that time. During the 1930s, American conservatives and businessmen tried to convince everyone that President Franklin Delano's New Deal programs would ruin the economy of the United States, and/or lead the country to Communism, or at least, to Socialism. The truth is that they were just afraid that FDR's policies were a threat to their corrupt business practices, that they would force them to treat their employees better, pay them more money, and create safer working conditions, which would cost the big bosses a lot of cash. The years following the end of the Second World War were the days of the next big Red Scare. It was the time of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) and the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee (SISS), presided over by the notorious Senator Joseph McCarthy, who ruined people's reputations with his reckless accusations of "disloyalty" and "subversive activities." It was also a time when the United States Government felt it had a right to overthrow foreign governments that it thought were turning to Communism, even if it meant installing brutal right-wing military dictatorships. Quite often, this was not so much about fighting Communism as it was about protecting the interests of American big business corporations. That's what our Government, through the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), did when it ousted the government of Iran in 1953 (and installed the dictatorial Shah, or King) to protect the interests of the U.S.-U.K.-owned oil companies, or when it threw out the democratically elected government of Guatemala to keep it from starting land reforms that included taking over lands belonging to the United Fruit Company (which also controlled the lands and governments of other Central American countries), and replaced it with a military dictator. Since then, Guatemala has been ruled by a series of far-right military dictatorships, which, in turn, have led to decades of oppression, civil wars, and revolutions that killed thousands of innocent people, including some of the best and brightest people who might have done something to stop the violence and repression. In the 1980s, Ronald Reagan became President and practically started another Red Scare with his talk about the Soviet Union being the "Evil Empire" and his insane belief that the rebels who fought to oust the right-wing tyrants of El Salvador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, etc, were "Communists" and "terrorists" who wanted to spread the "Red Menace" all over South America, and were thus, a threat to the "National Security" of the United States itself. All that was just plain NONSENSE! Most of the rebels probably couldn't even find the U.S.S.R. on a map. Many of them had friends and/or relatives who were beaten, tortured, raped, and murdered by "death squads" on orders from the governments, which were ruled by tyrants who were paranoid right-wingers whose idea of a "Communist" was anyone who spoke up about poverty and oppression, or who tried to help the peasants, who were poor and starving to death. Under that twisted type of thinking, JESUS CHRIST WOULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED A COMMUNIST! But, these facts didn't matter to the equally paranoid Mr. Reagan, who still insisted that the South American rebels were a threat to the United States, who called the basically Fascistic regimes our "friends" and "allies" (even when they were killing AMERICAN CITIZENS, or hiding former Nazis, who should have been turned over to the proper authorities after World War Two), who sent more military aid than humanitarian aid to these countries, and whose obsession with the "Communist threat" led him to support the right-wing rebels known as "Contras" who were determined to overthrow the leftist Sandinista government of Nicaragua, which had gotten rid of its unpopular U.S.-backed, right-wing despot, General Anastasio Somoza, in 1979. Reagan, not surprisingly, saw the Sandinistas as a "Communist threat" to the U.S.A., and decided it was "in our interests" to send money, weapons, and ammunition to the Contras, whom he called "freedom fighters" and "the moral equivalent of our Founding Fathers," even though a) most of the Contras were former members of the Somoza regime, which means that their main goal was replace the Sandinistas with another Somoza, b) the so-called "freedom fighters" were little more than terrorists, who raped, tortured, and murdered unarmed civilians, including women, children, priests, nuns, doctors, social workers, and who attacked hospitals, schools, shelters for the poor, etc, and c) the Contras were also involved in drug trafficking, sending tons of illegal narcotics, including a new one called "crack cocaine," to America. In fact, the Contras, and the United States Government that supported them, are today considered responsible for the crack cocaine epidemic of the 1980s and '90s. But none of this mattered to Reagan, who maintained that these tyrants and murderers were "our allies," just so long as they were "Anti-Communist." According to that fuzzy-headed thinking, if Reagan were President during World War Two, HE WOULD HAVE SUPPORTED ADOLF HITLER, BENITO MUSSOLINI, AND THE JAPANESE WARLORDS, BECAUSE THEY TOO WERE ALL ANTI-COMMUNIST! That would suggest that the German, Italian, and Japanese soldiers who mistreated prisoners of war (including Americans), the Navys and submarines, commanded by men like Karl Donetz of Germany and Yamamoto of Japan, who sunk allied ships, and the Japanese fighter and bomber pilots who attacked Pearl Harbor, would all have been backed by Reagan, because they too were Anti-Communists. Furthermore, Reagan would have declared war on Soviet Russia, even though it was one of our most important allies in WW2. See what a little Red Scare can do to rational people?
