I’m pretty sure that was the design of the Kansas state banner, which hung vertically instead of horizontally. The state wanted it to stand out more than the other state flags, the us Capitol rejected displaying it because of its weird configuration, so they changed to a regular flag. I do prefer it’s design, though.

Good thing that your ancestors are getting reparations for it by winning land and turning them into reservations. Also a group in Alaska who take care of bald eagles donate feathers to native Americans communities. @@asocos it looked better and besides not everything about the confederacy was racist, they would have eventually stopped slavery if they won the civil war, the reason why they still used slaves was because they were less industrialized than the north. The war wasn't about slavery, it was about states' rights, slavery was just a part of that at the time.
