Very informative presentation on the history of California Avocados. Watching this presentation after watching a recent video of it to see if there is more information shared. Since this is a UC organization, I don't understand why the choice for absurd number of ads. Other hobby organizations are uploading zero ads presentations.

Pinkerton in NorCal ripens in just a few days and not weeks like in SoCal.

When Hass avocado is your worst variety and Fuerte your second worst and you love Pinkertons, Zutanos and Reeds, while at the same time thinking of Zutano as the most exotic and delicate variety you have ever tried, well then it's quite obvious to you that you're not gonna have an easy time on this planet :)

The American avocado is tasteless. It's inferior to mexican avocados.

Most of the avocados found in supermarkets in the USA are imported from Mexico, and they are not good, some tasteless as you put it. I am curious what varieties of Mexican avocados are superior?

@@geobio3054 No sir, The majority of avocado in the states are Hass. The Mexican wild grown that is not planted for profit is far superior in taste to the Hass & others. This is why Mexican Guacamole tastes best.

@@chrisgarcia5462 Then how do you explain even people in Mexico, especially Michoacán region, are cutting down the native Criollo avocados and planting Hass variety? In addition, many wild avocados are very mediocre, have you eaten many superior wild avocados in Mexico yourself? About the superior Mexican avocados, do you have first hand experience with the varieties and village or town where they are grown? Personally, I like biodiversity and varieties, I have over 15 varieties of avocado trees, including Puebla, Oro Negro and Fuerte that were originated from Mexico.

@@geobio3054 KG, a tree that you come across in the woods away from the city in the outer area of San Luis Potosi & San Fernando is definitely wild and not planted by someone intentionally. It's where I first tasted avocado picked out of a tree then wrapped in newspaper for 3 days to ripe and ready for consumption. I've yet to taste avocado to this day that taste better. The guacamole they make over there is just so much better tasting than the one we make at my house with Hass and other types.BTW I've never heard of people actually cutting down a native tree for a Hass tree to be planted when perfect tasting one exists in the wild.

@@chrisgarcia5462 To have proper comparison, you should pick your own Hass at it's prime maturity from a local tree. Those imported Hass or even local Hass could have been in storage for many weeks, and often pick somewhat too early and not at it's prime. Hass is popular all over the world for some good reasons. It tastes quite good to most people in the world, quite productive, has a protective hard shell, good for transportation and storage, average consumers could easily tell it is ripen and ready to eat. Besides Hass, there are hundreds of other varieties out there, such as Reed, Fuerte, Nabal, Sharwil, Maluma, etc, just take some effort to find. Some wild avocados can taste superior at prime, but the skin may be very thin, with very large seed and less flesh, may not be productive, may spoil quickly and therefore not good for storage and transportation. Local Criollo avocados in Mexico are being replaced for commercial and export market. You can easily verify this with local people in Michoacán.
