I love Mary Lu and respect her persistent work to improve the avocado and educate students. She helped me get a GEM for my yard. and It has had some damage due to heat but is a fine producer. Lost an entire year but this year June 24 the fruit are threatening to bow limbs to the ground. Delicious fruit that stays on the tree for months!

As a vegan, I always call avocado my "green cream". I'm growing 4 Hass seedlings up on Clear Lake in Lake County. Fingers crossed for some delicious fruits. One day.

This was excellent information. Thank you Dr Mary Lu Arpaia. Would like to hear some more from you regarding heat tolerance with avocados. Recent years show we may need more varieties that have heat tolerance due to our ever changing environment. Maybe chime in on the Aravaipa Avocado

Have room for one more and debating between Gem and Gwen. I wanted Carmen but it is a tight spot. Growing many of the UC varieties as well as Mexican and local varieties.

Up in North California (above Willits no more than 30 miles from the coast) I'm determined to grow avocados less Mexicola snd more like Hass. I'd like to see a breed that can survive sustained 2 - 3 winter nights at 25- 30 degrees. Days 45 - 50 degrees.

dude! I am really into avocado right now. ! For example, even when i go to a restaurant and they have seasonal salad, and I see avocado in the listing, I will eat it and say: mmmmm good avocado. I know I am being very specific. Well, this is because this actually happened the other day! I ordered the market salad. Avocado was on the market tha tday that day! mmmmmm! yummy dinner I had that night!

Reed is best. And this is from a man who just planted some Bacon, Hass, Zutano, Mexicola. And I am making furrte from cuttings, But Reed is best! And I wish I had eaten a reed before I bought all my other cultivars. lol. Reed is best! am I right?

No offense but there is no such thing as avocado races there actually called species or in this case I believe the word would be phenotype or strain, I don’t like to be rude but just because people may be coming to this video to collect information I thought some one here in the comments should shed some light in the sub subject of avocado cultivars, also in the case of actual “races” in other animals species the proper term would be a morph.

Definition of race is a group of living things considered as a category. I don't think the use of 'race' takes away anything from this seminar. Especially since an avocado is the species and these varieties are subspecies and a race can be further classification; check out 'landraces'. Same species. Different compositions that give them different classification names

They can breed with one another just like the races of man and dogs. No offense taken.
