Thank you for sharing the story of 1125. Would love to hear Dan talk about cougars and Doug talk about wolves too! : )

Early June 2022 an elk calf was taken by a male black bear at Calcite Springs. I was working as a volunteer out of Tower helping managing the visitors. Quite a dramatic scene what with the Elk mom attacking the bear, to no avail.

He mentioned that Elk were one of 5 deer species in the park, but I can only think of 4 cervids in the area: elk, moose, mule deer, whitetail deer. What am I missing?

Pronghorn antelope. Third time is the charm.

@@markpiersall9815 Mouflon are not native North America. Big horn sheep, mountain goats, and bison are all bovids (in the family Bovidae). Pronghorn antelope are the sole remaining member of the family Antilocapridae. None of these are deer (in the family Cervidae).

I was thinking Big Horn Sheep; pretty much the same thing. I wonder if he misspoke and meant Ungulates or if he was using deer in a colloquial layman's terms. When I Google Yellowstone Park deer species I just get Mule and Whitetail.

It’s truly sad what the wolfs have done to the park
