History Of Ermac Mortal Kombat REMASTERED

Welcome to another Mortal Kombat 11!
Now In today history of breakdown and analysis, I will be talking all about the crimson spiritual ninja of the series, Ermac!
Recently theirs been a lot of talk about this character online as we are currently In the Season Of Lost Souls for Kombat League, so with Ermac being shown some love for MK11 (Despite his 'cameo' In the pit), It seems only fitting that we go that extra step and dive through the entire characters back history!
For this video not only did I want to go as far back as his first appearance In the original continuity, but I wanted to dive Into the somewhat 'birth' of the character as their an interesting backstory to how he was born.
Now although Ermac perished In the Mortal Kombat 11 do you think he will return as DLC being part of a Kombat Pack?
He clearly went under a redesign so who knows It may indeed be possible!

The mortal kombat devs really liked teasing the players with new or fake characters to stir up mystery or confusion so more people would play their games. It's really quite ingenious to say the least.

Ermac is also teased in the current season 9 of kombat league on MK11 with him resurrecting from death in the pits, with each rank you obtain the cards slowly transcends into Ermac coming back to life so this is possibly another tease by developers but then again they could be trolling us again but I really want him back especially now that he has a much better design than he did in MKX with now being a mix between a ninja and a mystical mage with a human look instead of an undead mummy look.

Ermac, Havik and Quan-Chi had KL seasons dedicated to them, other seasons were: season of greed (associated with Kollector- already on the roster), season of blood (associated with Skarlet- same as Kollector), season of time (Geras/Kronika), season of conquest (Kotal/Shao). IDK if it is a correct way to think about these seasons but i actually hope that they may tease return of these characters to the roster.

I cannot speak for anyone else, but I know why the rumor of Ermac being in MK I persists for me. It’s because I saw him in the game. It was in early ‘93, but before MK II came out, at an arcade in Goodlettsville, TN. I hadn’t heard of the Ermac rumor at that point, only the Reptile hidden character. I saw him in the looping gameplay and credits screens, when no one was playing the game. I only saw him the one time, despite watching the same unplayed cabinet for over 20 mins. I don’t know if it was the original motherboard or a later version, but I never saw him again on any other cabinet, or at any other arcades. I consider myself very fortunate to have seen it. I was overjoyed when Ermac first became a playable character and I mained him for quite some time. Thanks for the video, I wasn’t up on the modern MK lore!

I love how in the original timeline he was a fit ninja using levitation abilities to get stuff done. A villain turned a hero later down the story. The new timeline ruined him by turning him into a shriveling mummy.

It's not just a design choice. Ermac IS a mummy since his first unique design and he requires some ritual maintenance to remain stable, but Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung were both dead for over 25 years by MKX. His bandages, soul stone amulet, and his soul anchor (pattern on his chest) serve a purpose to keep the souls in relative harmony and keep him from rotting. In MKX, you can see his straps haven't been maintained and his soul anchor had to be bolted into his skin on top of his outfit. In MK11, we can see he's kept in decent condition whether he's from the past or not.

Ermac might have been undercover by Kotal Khan during the comic book series but cannot give too much information to Kotal. I think Kotal had Ermac commit many crimes against Kotal and his rule himself to regain Mileena's Trust. Also, I think Ermac ending and Reptile ending are canon. Ermac was killed by Shang Tsung near the time of Mortal Kombat 11 while Reptile retires from his position as Kotal Khan's general and rejoins his raptor people in Earthrealm.

You're not wrong in regards to the convoluted canon of the games and comics. For some reason Netherrealm doesn't look at the comics when making new games for both MK and Injustice. For example, in the Injustice comics, it is shown that in either year 4 or 5, Victor Zaas kills Alfred for Superman, but in Injustice 2, during the events of Arkham Asylum in year 1, Damien slits Zaas's throat, and for some reason Nightwing isn't there (which is important because it's his death that causes a rift between Bruce and Damien). Now don't get me wrong, I love these games, but i can't ignore these continuity errors and retcons, and there are waaay too many of them.

Ermac has always been my solid 2nd fav after Scorpion. He didn't really need to be a central character or have a deep backstory, he was cool all on his own. I know he ain't in the latest one but I'm glad he at least got a home in several more games after Ultimate MK3; there was no guarantee on that. So happy he made it :)

Nice vid, Ermac is my favorite character of MK. I really don't like what they have done with him in the new timeline, and he gets beat up all the time. Before he at least ended up as a good guy u.u Hoping to see him in MK11.

I’m surprised you haven’t done a REMASTERED history video for Kabal when you did it for mileena and ermac (neither character is even in MK11) yet Kabal who has debuted back in MK3 and has appeared in all 3 NRS MK games storymodes and is in the roster for the current game- MK11doesn’t get his own REMASTERED video? I wrote this little article that said "If Ermac was a planned character." Ermac in Mortal Kombat is known to fans as the red palette-swapped ninja. Ermac is not one person, but an entire collection of souls of warriors brought together into physical form through means of powerful dark magic. Due to this, Ermac always refers to himself as a group instead of a single person. As a result of his very being composed of thousands of souls, Ermac possesses various powers related to them, most commonly in the form of telekinesis, which allows him to manipulate every aspect of living and non-living objects with his mind. In addition to his telekinesis, he is also able to manipulate soul energy because of his composition, which he utilizes in the form of both levitation and firing projectile attacks. A very cool character, but he was not properly established in the early mortal kombat midway era. This is of course at first, he was not a character, but a glitch from the first mortal kombat game. There was a glitch that turned the yellow ninja, Scorpion, into a red color. This caused rumors amongst fans that this “Error Macro” was a secret character. Ermac wasn’t developed into a real character until the third installment of the Mortal Kombat Franchise. His bio read “An enigma to all who come into contact with him. Ermac's past remains shrouded in mystery. It's believed that he exists as a life force brought together by the souls of extinguished Outworld warriors. Shao Kahn has managed to take possession of these souls and use them to fight on the side of tyranny.". Then there are his endings which are non-canonical to the storylines. So, from the start, it seems that Ermac doesn’t have that grand of a purpose except to be a powerful fighter in Shao Khan’s army. The case is slightly the same in Mortal Kombat (2011), where he was also a strong adversary fighting for outworld. This game is a rebooted trilogy and Ermac is introduced as a contender in the Mortal Kombat Tournament held on Earth. Announced by Shang Tsung in the first Mortal Kombat tournament, where he was characterized as "the newest creation of Shao Kahn". At this point, his displays his powerful intimidating soul powers, he was an anticipated victor of the tournament. Despite his deadly powers, Ermac was defeated by Liu Kang in battle. Afterward, he was doomed to be just a powerful obstacle that the protagonist plows through and just that. At this point, I was thinking to myself, what if he was a more planned character? At first, this character wasn’t really intended to be a real character, seeing that he was a glitch, and when he was in the game, he had no purpose other than being a strong adversary. Baraka was an outworlder that lead the attack on the Shaolin Temple. Reptile is Shang Tsung’s bodyguard, Noob Saibot was a spectator of Quan Chi (whose existence was unknown during Mortal Kombat 1-3), and Cyrax and Sektor lead the charge to a new Lin Kuei called the cyber initiative. All this and what of Ermac? A character with such potency such as this would have been given a reason for so. Sounds underwhelming in his case. So, what is a suggestion that I have to make him more significant? Well, here I go. Just like before, he will debut in the third Mortal Kombat installment. Shao Khan is fed up with losing two Mortal Kombat tournaments in a row, as he has waited more than hundreds of years to take over Earthrealm, only to be thwarted by their champion. He then decided to take Earth by force, so he has Shang Tsung and the Shadow Priests revive and bewitch queen Sindel and begin the invasion. He unleashes extermination squads to roam throughout the Earth realm and kill any survivors and warriors who played part in disrupting his plans. (Get ready) In the case of Liu Kang, Shao Khan has something special planned for him, and that is the Outworld fighter Ermac! Ermac is the most powerful creation Shao Khan has ever made, a being comprised of thousands of Outworld souls! He was created as a one-man extermination squad against the champion of Earth realm! Shao Kahn sends Ermac to assassinate Liu Kang. Liu Kang encounters Ermac and engages in deadly kombat. Liu Kang has never fought an opponent as strong as Ermac before and struggles during battle. The battle then ends with a narrow win from Liu Kang, and Ermac disappears into nothingness. Then later after Shao Kahn’s defeat, Ermac is remained under Kahn's control and wandered Outworld with no orders. After this, what of the games beforehand? This revision for the character’s role in Mortal Kombat 3 can correspond with the many sequels. When Shao Kahn’s control was broken by Kenshi during the events of Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, assisting the spirit of Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat Deception, and willingly joining the forces of light in Mortal Kombat Armageddon. So therefore, only one game needed the revision of the character. What do you think? Do you like this revised Ermac or do you prefer how he is?
