I also liked his naming origin. The Midway team always had fun with their names. “Error Macros” were the cause of some glitches back then and they decided to name a ninja after them in Ermac. Pretty interesting.

Hey, about those other Ermac strings in UMK3. They actually all have uses in competitive play. HK, HK, LK, bHK is a mid that does more damage than the HK, LP pop-up, so it is used in the corner because you can't launch the opponent. You can also combo an OTG lift from that string midscreen. The HP strings are very useful because they begin with a jab, so that means they can be glitch jab option selected. The HP launcher string is used midscreen and the HP kick string is used in the corner for the same reasons as the knee strings.

"nothing about him was broken"? that character had one of the fastest uppercut recoveries on the whole game, only him and Rain had those tools. Ermac's dmg was insane.

Comboing from uppercut in MK9 was actually more related to height than recovery. Ermac and Rain could do it between many combos because they have specials that put the opponent very high, but in theory most characters had a way to convert from uppercut depending on height and position. Also I don’t think Ketchup meant Ermac was bad when he said nothing was broken about him in MK9. He was still good at various things (including his meterless damage), just there were higher tier characters better at those things.

Ermac was my first main in MK9. He's great at starting Combos but he really lacked any real damaging combos and whack/hard to input overheads and lows. I think one of his lows was like a back+attack, down, forward+attack which neither were cancel able at the end nor did any real damage without the last attack. I had to drop him for either Scorpion or my other real main, Raiden. But yeah, he was really basic. I think it was to balance his sweet specials. His teleport was punishable AF, only his air teleport was really what you wanted to use. He had one real full length combo which suffered when not striking mid. My buddies used to say, bro you just do the same moves. I was doing his best chain. Where the 'expert' characters had like 3-5 and better overheads and lows. Since he had the special that juggled, he really didn't have any other juggles. He was also pretty slow. He had a couple good but not really damaging quick starters. Basically the rest of his moves were so slow that you weren't catching anybody with them unless they wiffed. Again, Ermac's base combos were some of the weirdest inputs in the game. Design: 8/10 Move Set: 6/10

Ik this is old but y'all did Master of Souls dirty. His vanish move is literally a better reason to play him than soulball. Soulball is awesome and like 45% of the reason I'd use MoS, but the vanish completely changes everything about his jump. Like, you can jump teleport, jump vanish, jump float ground pound, jump float teleport, jump float vanish, or jump and float>vanish multiple times and never touch the ground. You can throw his soulball in the air during that and instantly get a fat combo, and obviously NJP is the main tool. Literally made people quit with vanish.

I remember all the error rumours surrounding his name. That was such cool times when it was all new. I kind of wish I played all the games between trilogy and XL I just was too busy and when it came to prior games I would learn every move and mean every move including all Shang Tsung morphs when he could morph in to any character. I was in my 20s by then though so working and clubbing every weekend. The 1st 3 games were during my teens so had plenty time to learn everything.

Ermac is arguably my favorite MK character besides Fujin. By far to me the coolest ninja. Every game he's been in I kill people with him hehe, though I did feel he played a little odd in MK X change of pace for him. I hated how he was limited to certain moves via a variation. I preferred MOS due to the slam. I wonder if he'll be in MK 11 with the many rumors flying around. Ermac is like the king of juggles. I still remember in Deception I discovered his unbreakable Axe juggle within the first few days on Xbox back in the day early 2000's now, with his D2 uppercut into TK combos were the best lol. I was like yeah I'm totally abusing this haha especially when near or in the corner lol. MKA he got downgraded a bit losing the Hua Chuan but was still fun. He was a beast is UMK3, but also fun and a juggle monster in Deception too for sure. MK 9 he's also a beastly character, juggle monster and zoning God in that game. Loved using him against everyone on Xbox MK 9. He was cool in MK X but didn't feel quite the same as he was previously. If he's in MK 11 I can only imagine the juggles he's going to have with the slow pacing of the game.

I always liked older ermac cuz he was more rushdown heavy, the modern ermac is fun but a little bit more slow paced for my liking. I'd love to try him properly in MKX one day because his mixups look so sick to this day

@@PNDKM Yeah haha I hear ya. UMK3 and MKT he was fun for sure, I mean I guess everyone was kind of rushdown more or rushdown heavy with that game and the run, jab cancels and all. For me my style, I love to stay back, zone and keep distance from people lol so I really loved him in MK 9 especially. One thing he could also do that you did touch base on that I loved utilizing far was his levitation cancels, alot of times I'd do it then cancel it then immediately buffer into his TK push, it would get people jumping almost everytime thinking I'd do the ground pound. I felt this tactic worked well against non teleporters especially. Yeah his mix ups in MK X are kind of nuts and faster paced.
