So much more than just Baker Street. My 7 year old boy loves Gerry Rafferty's songs just as much as I do.

Gerry Rafferty was a musical genius. Every song he performed and produced was gold.

I was killing time in w mart one day and looking through albums for sale. I never linger in stores usually. Get what I need and get out. But I found City to City and said holy smokes I love this album. My Mom had it when I was young and we listened to it when we moved to AZ. From VT. Incredibly by chance I came upon it and bought it. I found out a couple days latter tha Gerry had died acouple days ago. I think that I chanced upon it the day that he died. I love that album.

I got caught up in Gerry's funeral courtage by mistake as the cops didn't shut off a little used lane but as a local boy I negotiated the traffic not knowing what the holdup was , I got halted by a very irate police officer and the cars had to drive round me , it was very embarrassing and I slid down my chair as mourners glared at me as they drove by , RIP Gerry you were an amazing talent .

Thank you for this. I grew up with Baker Street on the radio a lot, and was one of my favorites, that and "Hold the Line" from Toto. Those two decades had the best in music, followed by the harder rock scene in the 90's. The world lost a great artist with the passing of Gerry.

Love the music of Gerry Rafferty, and love Paisley very much, I studied for my BA Languages Undergraduate Degree in Paisley University, now UWS-University of the West of Scotland. Fond memories. Thank you very much for posting.

The song Baker Street, the album City to City was a historical marker in my life. This music was that strong, that potent, to affix a time and place onto my own personal timeline.

Great tribute Martin. Gerry never forgot his Paisley roots. Hopefully we´ll see more about Gerry as his extended musical work becomes more better known, because he never commercialised himself.

Awesome tribute to Gerry Rafferty. I've been listening to him on and off since he passed away. He had a beautiful voice.

Great work Martin, I really enjoyed that. Gerry Rafferty was a real stealth bomber in the the music charts and it takes people like you to do the job he didn't want to do himself. If it helps to keep his music alive and bring it the attention of new listeners you'll have done him a sterling service.

Thanks for this Martin. My dad often reminds us that his brother- my Uncle Brian (Goodfellow) were mates at St. Mirin’s Academy and Reid Kerr College and that Gerry and Brian used to play music together at my grandparents’ house in Gallowhill Road.

Remember him when he used to record with Billy Connolly and they were known as The Humblebums! Even then, you could tell he was going to be a legend; have always been a massive fan and consider his recordings to be the soundtrack of my life...his legacy is his music and how it did, and still has, the power to affect so !many people's lives! Rest in peace, Scotland's legend and an internationally beloved, and much underrated, singer/ songwriter 🙏🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕💕

I can’t believe Baker Street never got to number one. Two songs which are always in my top ten are Baker Street and The Right Moment both by Gerry Rafferty.
@veltonmeade10572 жыл бұрын
I can't believe it either considering it was the era of prog rock, this song fit the essence of that era of music perfectly. Who knows, maybe it did reach #1. I work in statistics so with the way that data can be counted, just one mistake in counting the data (or missing data) could have prevented his song from showing up at #1. Who knows.

Can anybody tell me..was there ever a biography of the great man,or anything ever written about his life? I would dearly love to know more about his life as a recording artist,songwriter etc.I know he was somewhat of a recluse when it came to that part of his life.PS Listen to 'Rest in Blue',the album that his daughter Martha helped compile and release recently.You wont be disappointed.RIP Gerry,you genius of a man.

Shame Joe Egan isn't remembered or honored similarly; he was every bit Gerry's equal, just never managed a "Baker Street" of his own. Gerry's best work was with Stealers Wheel, in a Lennon/McCartney collaboration/competition with Joe.
