Considering that Satsuma himself stated that the BioGoji suit (the 1989 suit) was the comfiest out of all the heisei suits, I doubt the shock rumors were true. Also these incidents Ima list aren’t Godzilla related but are Toho-Kaiju related: During the filming of Varan (1958), there’s a scene where Varan hits a truck that explodes on him. However, Haruo Nakjima, who was inside the suit, suffered burns around his stomach and groin and had never healed (fun fact: that was the only known injury Nakajima suffered while filming). During the filming of Rodan (1956), the scene where Rodan crashes below the bridge and into the water was actually a blooper. The story was that during filming, the wire supporting the Rodan suit (with Nakajima inside) snapped, causing it to dive headfirst into the water. However, Nakajima came out fine despite the crash.

@@FloppaCraftThey didn’t have animatronics back then, so they needed people in suits to perform. Reminder these are 220 pounds or more of pure rubber and are extremely hot and moist inside. They had to stick a tube through the original 1954’s suit mouth just so the actor could breathe through the suit between scenes, and it also had no eye holes.

There was an incident with the Millennium Godzilla suit actor when filming a scene where Godzilla rises out of the water, because of how heavy the suit was, he had to be lowered into the water with a crane, but when he was being pushed in the water, his breathing tuber came off and had to be raised back up.

Yeah I believe he stated that in an article I once read that had the 3 Godzilla suit actors (Nakajima, Satsuma, and Kitagawa) expressing stories during filming, and Kitagawa mentioned the story where his oxygen tube fell off and was panicking. Bro probably had PTSD from that. They definitely didn’t like doing scenes in the big tank as aside from the large chance of drowning, they also stated that they know some people had pissed in the tank (felt even more bad for Kitagawa after that)

There's another close call from the Millennial Era. During a water scene, in one of the films, a movie crane was used to push the buoyant suit under the water. The suit actor had a breathing tube, but it became dislodged while he was being submerged. It took awhile to realize what was happening, but they did figure it out and brought him up and he was ok! Apparently, they quit doing water scenes, after that. Source: Excellent documentary "Bringing Godzilla Down To Size" that was included in the beautiful "War of the Gargantuas/Rodan" DVD release. Buy it if you can find it!

Little accident myth: a great myth in the Godzilla community is that in Godzilla Vs Hedorah, filming the fight scene the suit actor had a heart attack (not 100% on heart attack could have been something else) and had to be operated on, in the Hedorah suit. This is true, kinda. He actually had the appendix accident ,mentioned in the video, while promoting the movie. He was, however operated on while wearing the lover half of the Hedorah suit. This is actually mixed up with Godzilla vs Destroyah, with when he collapsed during a fight scene because of the head moving thing also mentioned. so uh, there’s that.

That isn't exactly true. Satsuma suffered from acute appendicitis while promoting Godzilla vs. Hedorah. Satsuma wore half the suit for an interview before his diagnosis, this is what spawned the myth. It's interesting to see the legend still lives on.

You forgot about when the entire tip of Godzilla's tale came off in Godzilla versus Mothra from 1992. Also the millennium suit actor claims that in either Godzilla 2000 or Godzilla versus Megaguirus, suit after slipped and due to how the dorsal plates were weighted, he fell face first into the water, causing the suit to fill up with water and the actor almost drowning.

Tezuka being electrocuted sounds suspicious because in the original movie he only wore the suit one time (and he accidently fell on the miniature of the Diet building). And that was it. I know I read about this anecdote in a book by the worst Godzilla author ever (Peter H. Brothers). I haven't heard of similar accidents happening to Nakajima or to Tezuka during the production of other movies.

Why did they wear suits? They originally wanted to go for stop motion in 1954, but the deadline made it impossible, so they went to make a concrete suit (they didn't have much rubber after Japan lost WW2) why did they stop wearing it? CGI, suit making is expensive and impractical by the time Shin Godzilla was released.

I think another incident happened in Godzilla versus Gigan in the scene where gigan cuts Godzilla when flying but in a trial run for the scene there was a new person who was on the crane for Gigan and misjudged the position of Gigan and the Gigan prop slams headfirst into the head of the Godzilla suit knocking it over the force of the impact was enough to cause the tank in Godzilla’s head to rupture blowing the top half of Godzilla’s head off the explosion also ignited the gas giving the suit actor severe burns and also causing the set to catch fire
