Sisties. A frequently discussed sub-genre, in koakuma ageha, is OL-kei. Or, office lady style. A lot of the more adult and ane gyaru styles could work conservatively.

As a black girl gyaru always spoke to me and I’ve been trying to get into it. Being taught to speak soft and know my place is an experience with almost every ig irl but it was more prevalent for me as a black girl. Because the moment I was too loud I was considered aggressive or masculine where non blk girls would be called feisty or passionate. Not only that but colorism and racism made me try to be lighter and was using foundation and powders to look fair and not going in the sun to be pale. Also shaming for having a “developed” body after puberty made me afraid to wear what I wanted and the culture has really help me find my confidence and know fashion doesn’t mean promiscuous. Gyaru has been a way for me to accept my skin my big and somewhat dramatic personality and my love for fashion.

thank you so much as gyaru in training/baby gyaru this has helped me a lot, i’ve done research but only on the sub cultures of gyaru & that has made me ignorant. i felt like i was missing a huge piece because as a westerner i hear that gyaru is more than just the clothes & it is a feminist movement but it never got explained more than that. i really appreciate the history lesson & am now more fascinated w/ it thank you again !

this is so interesting! i didn’t know there was a correlation between hime gyaru and hime lolita in japan. as a lolita myself, ik a lot of lolitas will also wear hime gyaru or himekaji (myself included, when i don’t want to go for a full coord). but i didn’t know hime gyaru was sometimes called hime rori in japan! that’s awesome

It’s sad how the standards still are around (pale skin, submissive, etc) but honestly it’s interesting to me how with American standards it’s to look like ur grown at such a young age and that got me into liking the cutesy standards style :/ cuz i felt like I couldn’t express myself like that but also don’t want to seem like i’m **not tryin to be a baby like how some ppl try to act like

This is so amazing!! I'm very interested in the gyaru style and it's history. I would love to one day be able to be apart of Gyaru! I'm going through stuff trying to learn as much as I can. I am currently 13 so I'll wait until I'm older but I'm still going to learn at the moment! I wanna be respectful and learn the history. I don't know if I'll ever have to courage to be Gyaru but I'll always think of it as really awesome!

I loved learning about the different subcultures and can't wait to try them. I think I will lean more towards the agejo gyaru or hime gyaru since those are styles with my favorite colors.
