As well as driving most of Hayes models built from the mid 50's until it's sale to Paccar I remember well being in their plant on several occasions...there are many still operating world wide.

I was able to take an HDX for a couple of loads of logs. The way I remember it was it had a 12V71 Detroit in it and an Allison PowerShift transmission with electric controls. I was told to do everything with the engine at high RPM, upshift, downshift even braking with the oil bath retarder. The transmission had the two oil level holes with pipe plugs. There were some big hills and we were using water on all the brake drums. There are still many HDX and P-16 operating in the BC forest industry. I'm not a 'real' truck driver, I was a faller so I'm sure you know more about them than I do but those trucks were a constant presence seemed like wherever I worked.

Thanks for putting this together. I was there during the Jack Curcio years. Satisfying to see that some of these trucks are still earning their keep in the woods and heavy haul jobs some 45+ years later.

Here in British Columbia, you can still see a whole lot of these old Hayes HDX and Pacific P 16s Still in use on all the off-highway logging in amongst The dirt roads. Also mission towing still has their Hayes Holmes heavy wreaker on display and may not be in service any longer but still awesome to see

@@iBackshift Now that would be great to see. They made a pile of different styles of trucks and alot of them were all wheel drive. Later ones used the Dodge swing out fender style cab.

I remember seeing them on the road In the 70s. Toronto fire dept had a bunch of them. Didn't the name just have one T in it? Scot?
@sergeantmetalhead4173 жыл бұрын
@@larrydunlop378 yes it was 1 t, they were made in Nova Scotia. Midland and RST ran a lot of them which makes sense they're Irving companies and Irving built the trucks
@larrydunlop3783 жыл бұрын
@@sergeantmetalhead417 I didn't know Irving owned Scot. They also owned the Thomas skid steers. Like I mentioned Toronto FD had alot of Scot fire trucks. I remember seeing smaller fleets having them as well. The 70s was a Great time to be a kid!

Rubber railroad vocational trucks, very weird, did not steer like a truck, more like a front end loader, articulated in the center, duallies on all wheels, used Ford L9000 cabs, hoods were different
