Back in the early 1970s I took a winter job working for the highway dept in the small town of Virgil in upstate NY. The town was located at the highest elevation in that part of the state, and brother did we get snow! The two best by far pieces of snow removal equipment we had were two all wheel drive OshKosh snow plows, those things were unstoppable! The only down side was the fact they were built to move snow and were of no use for anything else.

Drove an m977 for 13 months in iraq. Logged 24,000 miles over there. Multiple small arms rounds in the side, I.e.d. shrapnel and "bonus" took an r.p.g. to the frame between the rear duels. Luckily it was a dud. But that truck brought me back home!

I collect Military trucks and a couple in my collection are OshKosh, their blower trucks are extremely powerfull (2206) right along with the plow trucks. I also have an M977 HEMTT 8 wheel drive cargo with a self loading hydraulic crane on the rear. I have found their trucks to be incredibly well built for the purposes they were designed for, the company support is a wonderful change compared to the rest of the world and their products are top notch in every way I need them to be! One of the best companies in America, and has been for the last 50 years!!
@karlk68605 жыл бұрын
@ Hello Mathew and you are correct on the status of the HEMTT. When Govt Planet started releasing them 3 years ago or so my information says they sold 41 HEMTT trucks, well OshKosh got wind of this came over IMMEDIATELY and affered the Govt a Zero Time rebuild for the trucks, essentially the military turns over all our old HEMTT trucks to OshKosh and they upgrade the trucks to all the brand new trucks specs, the truck is also then counted as brand new stock and OshKosh was doing the for around 250K or about half the price of buying a new non-rebuilt truck, well as you can guess all sales of these units was immediately stopped! On my truck it came out of Govt Planet out of Texas a buddy of mine was high bidder on it and won then had it shipped up to his farm Near Roseau MN, he then found a woman that he wanted to marry and needed money and that is where the truck came into my hands Mathew. If you go to Utube and type in M977 you will have about 5 videos that come up and the Desert Tan truck is my actual truck. I drove it about 800 miles last year and its without a doubt one of the most fun trucks I own!
@karlk68605 жыл бұрын
@ Mathew when I bought mine I had a couple things going my way, 1 was they had not stopped sales yet and 2 the fellow I bought mine from felt he really needed money to get married. When I bought it off Govt Planet I think he only paid 20K for the truck it needed a new front protective piece, it goes over the whole front of the truck and the crane needed a few hydraulic lines and one cylinder needed to be rebuilt. When he sold this one to me I paid him 30K for the truck. Mathew you may not be aware of a website called Steelsoldiers.com but there is at least 2 or 3 HEMTTs for sale on that site right now, you should take a look, If you weren't in a hurry to buy one and did a fair bit of looking about you should be able to find a pretty good one in the 35 to 45 range I would think. The other thing is you can feel pretty good driving the trucks a fair distance also, they will cruise down the interstate at 55 mph and that 2K RPM on the tach. I was looking around/dreaming of finding a MG turret for my HEMTT and this winter I struck gold and fount the legs for one (hardest part to find) so over the next year or so I will get that all mounted up on the truck, and that HAS to come AFTER I pull the radiator and have it rebuilt this Spring Mathew! If you have more questions or If I can be of more help here is my direct email address Mathew its Karl.Kostman@netcenter.net Feel free to use it!! Karl

The Oshkosh 8x8 Titan Series Crash Tenders were legendary. Always there under the most extreme weather. Easy to take care of and they were lots of fun to drive over rough ground at high speed. I miss them and the base they were stationed at.

I retired from APS(Arizona Public Service) Company in 1990 as a Journeyman Fleet Mechanic responsible for upkeep and maintenance of rolling stock. We had both Oshkosh and Pierce trucks for the line crews to use. The prior comment about being outdated is not right, they are made to be functional - not beautiful.
@SamhainBe8 жыл бұрын
"Functional - not beautiful' - I'll take that over over slick, shiny and new anytime. Quality, Dependability, and Tough - that's what Oshkosh is all about.

Interesting how that concrete truck hasn't changed in basic design in 30-35 years. I thought those weird looking rear engined, 3 or 4 axle with those huge, wide single tire type jobs didn't become popular until the late 90's/00's. Before that I thought concrete trucks were a conventional truck like an R model Mack with the discharge at the back.
