This is my FAVORITE audio book. The first 4 chapters with that great southern accent stumbling over the pronunciations is so soothing and great I cant even put it into words. SERIOUSLY ❤❤❤❤❤❤ I listen to this REGULARLY. Bravo...I want to hear him read Sherlock Holmes and some Shakespeare too...

A good friend of mine was a linguist and he insisted that the accent you hear is English. One of the Royals adopted a different accent because they thought this one was pedestrian and unbecoming. It slowly became the norm. The settlers in the New World weren't around to hear the new way to speak and they continued to speak this way. It makes a lot of sense. Castilian Spanish came into existence because of the Kings lisp. It sounds ridiculous and you get laughed at when you use the formal Usted. Don't do it.

@@Onemore59 Sorry to break it to you but your friend was pulling your leg. I refuse to believe that anyone could be so dim and ignorant as to believe that tripe, so I choose to presume that he was just joking. And a 'linguist', my a*s 🤣 🤣 🤣 As for the Spanish "lisp" 🤦🏼♀️ : Spaniards pronounce their 's' much like everyone else, imagine that. Their soft *c* ( as in *ce* and *ci* ) and their *z* however are pronounced like the sound *th* in words such 'thought', 'thing' , 'thigh', 'thunder', 'thursday' and so on; do English speakers have a lisp too? Oh, and Italians pronounce the soft *c* as *ch* . Does your "linguist" friend blame one of their kings for that too? 😂 Look, the only reason Latin Americans don't pronounce the soft *c* and the *z* like (most) Spaniards do is because the bulk of the people who went there came from the southern Spain areas where *c* , *z* and *s* have the same (s) sound, even today. They learnt Spanish from them, thus they learnt their regional way to pronounce it. Surprise. Last, _usted_ is very much the correct word to address people in formal settings in Spain. It's also the polite way to address (at least initially) old people you don't know. It will only look silly if you use it in an informal chat; just like it would if you were to call your brother or friend 'sir' 😂 I'm still speechless about your gullibility. Do you ever check facts, or just take anything you're told or read as gospel truth because you can't be bothered to research the validity of a claim? Whatever the case, if you need to buy a bridge, please get in touch. Got the perfect opportunity for you, don't miss!

Hmmm I reckon his accent is from the south of Latium. Maybe even further south from around Capua. The way he pronounces the river Po just gives me the vapors.

Oh the irony. I can understand and break down the "Latin" better from my southern brother from another mother than I could with a European reading it using a more "proper" English/Latin accent.🤔 Though, I did have to speed her up a tad. 1.25 is perfect. Good read, sir.

Oh my God! That was George Wallace, wasn't it? Good times. Seriously, I'm grateful that the guy gave his time for this public service, but he really struggles with a lot of the Latin and Italian. For instance, unless Rome was besieged by a basketball team, he mispronounces Celtic.
